摘要:
Chirality evaluation is proved to be an efficient tool for the authenticity control of neroli, petitgrain and bergamot oils by enantioselective multidimensional gas chromatography (enantio-MDGC). The simultaneous stereochemical analysis of the main compounds linalool, linalyl acetate, α-terpineol using heptakis-(2,3-di-o-acetyl-6-o-tert.-butyldimethyl-silyl)-β-cyclodextrin as the chiral main column is described. α-Pinene, β-pinene, limonene, terpinen-4-ol and nerolidol are simultaneously stereoanalyzed with heptakis-(2,3-di-o-methyl-6-o-tert.-butyldimethylsi-lyl)-β-cyclodextrin. Characteristic authenticity profiles of neroli, petitgrain, bergamot and other citrus oils are deduced by enantioselective cGC as well as isotope ratio mass spectrometry (IRMS), online coupled with capillary gas chromatography. Enantiomeric ratios, isotopic data as well as quantification of bergamot oil compounds are evaluated integrally. Scope and limitations of the techniques are discussed.

摘要:
Essential oils from fresh leaves of fiveMyrciaspecies collected in the southern region of Brazil were obtained by hydrodistillation and analyzed by GC and GC/MS. Seventy compounds representing 87.5% to 97.0% of the oils were identified. Two samples comprised mainly of monoterpenes with linalool being the most abundant compound inM. acuminatissimaoil (22.3%), whereas α- and β-pinenes represented 36.3% ofM. bombycinaoil. The three other oil samples were found to be rich in sesquiterpenes. The oil ofM. fallaxcontained a high percentage of α-bisabolol (83.8%), whileM. glabraoil was characterized by the presence of selinenes (15.2%) and valerianol (13.2%). Finally, the oil ofM. multiflorawas found to be the most complex with germacrene D (8.7%) and β-caryophyllene (7.5%) being the two major constituents.

摘要:
The constituents of the secretory hairs ofAgastache foeniculum Kuntze leaves were sampled by means of glass microneedles and analyzed by GC and GC/MS. The main components of the secretory mixture were methyl chavicol (59.5%) and (E)-anethole (19.6%).The composition of the secretory mixture was also compared with the composition of the essential oils obtained by hydrodistillation of the leaves.

摘要:
The essential oil ofMicromeria bifloraBenth. has been investigated for its composition by capillary GC and GC/MS. The oil was found to contain mostly monoterpene hydrocarbons and oxygenated monoterpenes. The major constituents of the oil were neral (25.3–32.2%) and geranial (26.7–41.3%). The oil produced in the winter was found to contain higher amounts of oxygenated monoterpenes than the oil produced in the summer.

摘要:
The volatile oils from two species of genus Salvia L., of the Lamiaceae family, Salvia aethiopis L. andS. sclareaL. have been examined by means of GC/MS in combination with retention indices. The main constituents of the essential oil of S. aethiopis were found to be: α-copaene (10.43-9–15%), germacrene D (10.46–4.95%) and bicyclogermacrene (41.48–29.54%). The volatile oil ofS. sclareawas found to contain linalool (32.97%), α-terpineol (5.63%), linalyl acetate (16.85%) and germacrene D (7–57%) as major components.

摘要:
Thirty three compounds were identified by GC/MS in the essential oil from green and black berries of common Juniper (Juniperus communis L.). The major components were α-pinene (27.22–62.00%), limonene (1.31–30.96%), myrcene (5.41–20.23%), sabinene (0.27–16.47%) and citronellol (5.06–15.57%), depending upon whether black or green berries were used to produce the oil. Certain quantitative variations in the oil existed among the sampling locations.

摘要:
Because of its sensitivity to cold, rosemary was not previously cultivated in Hungary. As a result of the selection work, we have been successful in isolating a frost-resistant selection of rosemary, the cultivation of which is now underway. The composition of the oil of this new rosemary selection is slightly different to other rosemary oils. The major components of the oil were α-pinene (4.1–14.4%), 3-octanone (trace-10.0%), β-pinene (5.3–13.7%), 1,8-cineole (21.3–46.4%), camphor (13.0–31.0%) and verbenone (2.5–11.1%). Among the components identified by GC and GC/MS, 3-octanone and verbenone were found to be the characteristic constituents of the oil of the new Hungarian selection. It was also found to possess antimicrobial activity.

摘要:
The essential oil of Australian tea tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) has been investigated for skin irritancy using an occlusive patch test on 25 human subjects for 21 days. 1,8-Cineole, the constituent reported as being responsible for tea tree oil skin irritancy, was similarly tested. Irritancy was not detected from any of eight preparations containing pure cineole in concentrations of 0.0, 3.8, 8.0, 12.0, 16.0, 19-9, 24.0 and 28.1% in soft white paraffin. Eight tea tree oil preparations containing similar concentrations of cineole did not show skin irritation when tested at 25% in soft white paraffin. However, 3 of 28 panelists were withdrawn from the trial because of a severe allergic (as distinct from irritant) response to tea tree oil. These subjects were then tested with either pure tea tree oil major constituents or crude fractions. One panelist showed a strongly positive reaction to α-terpinene and all three reacted (two strongly) to two sesquiterpenoid fractions. None showed allergic response to α-pinene, β-pinene, limonene, p-cymene, 1,8-cineole, γ-terpinene, terpinolene, terpinen-4-ol or α-terpineol in 24-28 h. Three positive reactions occurred to a sesquiterpene hydrocarbon fraction, and one to a sesquiterpene alcohol fraction. The significance of these human tests with the topical application of tea tree oil products is discussed and methods for the minimization of allergens are suggested.

摘要:
A study has been made on the effects of the dietary administration of a selection of volatile oils from medicinal plants on the polyunsaturated fatty acid composition in the retina of aged (28 month old) rats. Polyunsaturated fatty acids comprised by far the major proportion of the total unsaturated content within the retinal phospholipids with docosahexaenoic acid predominating. The administration daily of 3-9 mg of the essential oils from clove, nutmeg, pepper and thyme over a period of 17 months resulted in the maintenance of very much higher levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids, in particular docosahexaenoic acid, within the retinal phospholipids. This increase occurred mainly at the expense of a reduction in the level of oleic acid. The possible efficacy for the application of the oils from such medicinal plants through their antioxidant capacities in the prevention of age-related macular degeneration is discussed.
