摘要:
Abstract.Diploid female chromosome numbers are listed for 180 aphid species not previously karyotyped. The list includes the first chromosome records for several aphid tribes (Tramini, Greenideini, Anomalaphidini, Nippon‐aphidini). Variation in chromosome number at different systematic levels is discussed. Usually the karyotype is particularly stable within a genus, but there are notable exceptions (e.g.Amphorophora) where considerable evolutionary increase in chromosome number has occurred by autosome dissociation with little accompanying morphological change. In several genera differences in gross chromosome morphology can be useful to the taxonomist. Within‐species karyotype variation is relatively common in aphids, and instances of structural heterozygosity are particularly numerous in species and groups which have partially or completely abandoned the sexual phase of the life cycle in favour of permanent thelyt

摘要:
Abstract. The validity and composition ofEctrepesthoneuraEnderlein are discussed and it is contrasted with the related genusTetragoneuraWinnertz. The occurrence of mid‐tibial sense organs in these genera and elsewhere in the subfamily Sciophilinae is considered. The EuropeanEctrepesthoneuraare revised and the secondary sexual characters of the male legs newly described. Two sgecies,E.pubescens (Zetterstedt)= messaurensisPlassmann, syn.n. andE.colyerisp.n., are added to the British list. The Nearctic species are discussed and the two eastern species dealt with fully: the male ofE.bicolor(Coquillett) is newly recognized andElaffoonisp.n. described. Some western NearcticTetragoneuraprobably belong correctly toEctrepesthoneurabut examination of types showed thatT.quintanaCole,T.longicaudavan Duzee and the eastern NearcticT.pimplaCoquillett belong toDziedzickiaJohannsen in its present broad usage. The PalaearcticEctrepesthoneura gracilisEdwards also probably has closer affinities withDziedzickiathan with its present assignment. The JapaneseEctrepesthoneuradescribed by Sasakawa (1961) are excluded as they are probably Sciarida

摘要:
Abstract.Hybrids bred in the laboratory betweenPapilio dardanusBrown andPapilio phorcasCramer resulted in male butterflies similar to the two naturally occurring males described asP.nandinaRothschild&Jordan. A single female hybrid insect resembling the female parent was also bred. Male hybrids were also obtained betweenP.dardanusandP.demodocus/demoleusbut not betweenP.dardanusandP.constantinus.The phylogenetic relationships ofdardanusandphorcasare discussed, and reasons given for preferring the older hypothesis that male‐like females are primitive rather than that they represent the most specialized forms. Further information on this point would be forthcoming if backcrosses and F2s could be obtaine

摘要:
Abstract. The generic classification of theOphiongenus‐group is revised following consideration of the basis of the present classificatory system and the results of analyses of fifty‐nine characters in sixty‐nine species representing nineteen nominal genera. Results are presented in the form of an average linkage dendrogram, a nearest neighbour plot, a principal coordinate plot, generic diagnoses and a key to the twelve genera here recognized:Afrophiongen.n.,AgathophionaWestwood,AlophophionCushman,EremotylusFoerster (=BoethoneuraCushman,ChilophionCushman,ChlorophionTownes,ClistoraphaCushman,GenophionFelt syn.n.),HellwigiellaSzépligeti,OphionFabricius (=ApatophionShestakov,ApomesusTownes,MecetronTownes,PlatophionHellén syn.n.),RhopalophionSeyrig,RiekophionGauld,Sclerophiongen.n., Sicophiongen.n.,TrophophionCushman,Xylophi

摘要:
Abstract.Gryllus bermudensisCaudell from the Bermudas is compared with its closest relativeG.firmusScudder from the southeastern seaboard of the U.S.A. The two are very similar: a few minor morphological differences, mainly in the male copulatory structures, have been detected;bermudensisdiffers from most, but not all, mainland populationsof firmusin that it lacks a diapause; the calling songs and stridulatory apparatus are virtually indistinguishable. They interbreed freely, and apparently indefinitely in captivity, but there is an initial fall‐off in fertility when ♀bermudensisare mated with ♂firmusfrom North Carolina, although not in the reciprocal cross. The reduction is not sustained at so low a level in the hybrids.G.bermudensisis therefore regarded as a subspecies ofG.firmus. The most closely related species is probablyG.ovisopisT. J. W
