摘要:
Abstract.Ommatidium lens structure in the Trogidae and the monotypic Glaresidae is studied. Three types (eucone, duocone and exocone) are found in the Trogidae [and most Scarabaeoidea]; only the eucone type occurs in the Glaresidae. Evidence is presented that evolution of ommatidium type in the Trogidae has proceeded from a basic eucone type such as that in extantGlaresisandTrox, to a more derived eucone as inPolynoncusand some species of theOmorgussubgeneraOmorgusandAfromorgus, through various states of the duocone type as in the remainder of the species belonging to these subgenera, to the highly evolved exocone ommatidium found in the monobasicOmorgus (Haroldomorgus). An improvement in optics of the duocone and exocone over the eucone may have driven the evolution of these types. Ommatidium structure does little to confirm or refute proposed relationships among trogid taxa but does clearly indicate the path of evolution of the different lens systems in the Trogidae and illustrates the probable course of evolution of ommatidium structure in the Scarabaeoidea.

摘要:
Abstract.Analysis of thirty‐four macrosteline and twenty‐eight non‐macrosteline leafhopper genera (Homoptera: Cicadellidae: Deltocephalinae) suggests that the ability to transmit plant viruses has arisen on at least three separate occasions within the Macrostelini. The tribe, including the Coryphaelinisyn.n.and Balcluthini, is shown to be monophyletic. A revised diagnosis of the Macrostelini is presented, together with a key to genera. Five new genera and eight new species are described:Adergannagen.n.,Cicadabaragen.n.Kadrabolinagen.n.,Masafueragen.n.andScaphostelesgen.n.,Yamatotettix remaneisp.n.,Masafuera oceanicasp.n.,Aderganna aethiopicasp.n.,A.nigrasp.n.,Scaphosteles nukahivasp.n.,Kadrabolina elongatasp.n.,K.sinuatasp.n.andK.bispinosasp.n.Four new combinations and five new synonymies are established:Cicadabara dorsalis(Osborn)comb.n.,C.minuta(Osborn)comb.n.,C.tintorella(Osborn)comb.n.,Balclutha thea(Distant)comb.n.,B.smaragdulaMatsumura as a junior synonym ofB.thea(Distant)syn.n.,B.modestaAhmed, Murtaza&Malik as a junior synonym ofB.incisa(Matsumura)syn.n.,B.karachiensisAhmed, Murtaza&Malik as a junior synonym ofB.rubrostriata(Melichar)syn.n.,B.versicoloroidesGhauri as a junior synonym ofB.sternalis(Distant)syn.n.andB.knightiRao&Ramakrishnan as a junior synonym ofB.sujawalensisAhmed

摘要:
Abstract.EurysphindusLeConte is revised and redescribed,Genisphindusgen.n. is described and a key to the species is given for each. Four new species ofEurysphindusare described:E.comatulussp.n.,E.grandiclavigersp.n.,E.hallisp.n. andE.infuscussp.n.Eurysphindus brasiliensisSen Gupta&Crowson,Eurysphindus plaumanniSen Gupta&Crowson andEurysphindus hirtusLeConte are redescribed. Four species ofGenisphindusare described:G.latisternussp.n.,G.minorsp.n.,G.rotundussp.n. andG.roxanneaesp.n.Eurysphindus laevicollisSen Gupta&Crowson is reassigned toGenisphindus.A tentative hypothesis of the phylogenetic relationships of sphindid genera is presented based on a cladistic analysis. A classification derived from the phylogenetic hypothesis is proposed and compared with that of Sen Gupta&Crowson (1977). A generic key to adult Sphindidae is provided. Known distributions for the genera of sphindids are considered in light of the phylogenetic hypothesis and various interpretations are proposed.
