摘要:
Clinical research has described alcoholism in its relationship to primary, secondary and withdrawal depression. Current findings have indicated that the depressive symptomatology experienced by primary alcoholics decreased significantly as a response to detoxification and treatment. A pilot study was undertaken to compare post detoxification measures (pretest) of depression, loss/grief with like measures on the completion of a 28 day treatment program (posttest). The Beck Depression Scale (BDS), the Loss Identification Measure (LIM) and the Grief Awareness Measure (GAM) were used to measure change. The depression scores decreased significantly (p<.0001); the loss identification score increased significantly (p<.01); a significant measure of grief. present at the beginning of treatment, declined somewhat with treatment (p<.05). A tentative conclusion suggested that a distinction could be made between depression and a loss/grief reaction in an inpatient alcoholic population.

摘要:
Clinicians need to be aware of the proliferation of alcoholism among Hispanic women. The clinical treatment of five alcoholics in a group modality is presented. The conceptualization and implementation of the treatment was developed within a sociocultural framework. Implications for working with Puerto Rican alcoholic women are presented.

摘要:
Families in which an adolescent is alcoholic or dependent on other chemicals demonstrate high levels of stress and disturbance. A common pattern occurs when some members of the family habitually take too little responsibility while others become over-responsible. What follows is a presentation of four clinical techniques that have been designed or altered to allow these families an opportunity to focus on the need for each member of the family to accept responsibility only for himself or herself. The techniques are the family intervention, the family first step, the enabling inventory, and the home contract.

摘要:
In applying family systems theory to the study of the alcoholic within a marital subsystem, the drinking symptoms may be seen as an indication of a family dysfunction. Both spouses are seen as contributors to the alcoholic problem, while both are affected by it. "With almost every drunk, there is a sick dry who is almost a mirror image" (Anderson&Caner, 1978). This article will specifically explore the complex dynamics at play within the couple in which one spouse is alcoholic and will generally explore the familial aspects of alcoholism. In so doing, the relationship of co-dependency between husband and wife will become not only clarified but comprehensible as well, from a family oriented perspective. At least three theoretical models will be utilized to explain the various, integral couple dynamics. Implications for treatment goals and tactics for change will be suggested.

摘要:
Resident compatibility and staff preparedness are major determinants of the success or failure of residential combined treatment programs. At Eagleville Hospital, the extent to which alcoholics, addicts, and multiple substance abusers are similar/different with respect to personality needs, self-concept, psychopathology, and self-reported problems has been the subject for study for nearly a decade. Research findings consistently show greater similarities than differences, when appropriate statistical controls are exercised for demographic variables (e.g., age, race, and sex). Conscious, overt combined treatment programs require building consensual support among staff for such treatment, providing generic education and training, and recruiting appropriate role models of recovery. Programmaric considerations recognizing the diversity of patient life-styles likely to be found in a residential combined treatment program are enumerated.
