摘要:
&NA;Since the passage of the ADA, issues unforeseen by the sponsors and proponents of this legislation have arisen. Issues such as definition and documentation of disability and access to standardized testing are being played out across the country with mixed results. Key to these arguments is the definition of who has a disability and what is a reasonable accommodation. In higher education. the issues tend to center around whether a reasonable accommodation has, indeed, been provided.

摘要:
&NA;This article describes language difficulties of college students with language learning disabilities (LLD) and the types of accommodations that are provided to these students. First, it presents four language issues that affect the provision of accommodations. It points out that there are differences across universities in the accommodations offered and stresses the importance of “matching” the student to the university that can provide accommodations appropriate to the student's needs. It presents three case studies of students who vary on a continuum of severity of language problems, describes accommodations provided for each, and presents two perspectives on accommodations—that of the LD service provider and that of faculty who taught the three students. The article suggests ways for speech‐language specialists to collaborate on a high school transition team and with the LD Coordinator at the university.

摘要:
&NA;Research on students with foreign language (FL) learning problems is reviewed. The Linguistic Coding Differences Hypothesis, a theory explaining FL learning problems, is described. The continuum of FL learning is explained and the primary role of linguistic variables in FL learning is supported. Recent research on students classified as LD with FL learning problems is also reviewed. A recent court decision regarding FL course substitutions, the Boston University case, is discussed. Implications of the research and court case for professionals and educators are presented.

摘要:
&NA;Many students with learning disabilities have specific difficulties meeting the mathematics demands in postsecondary educational settings. Several factors contribute to these difficulties. Included among these are: (1) characteristics of learning disabilities in math, (2) inadequate preparation for postsecondary math demands, (3) difficulties with assessment and identification, and (4) heterogeneity of students with math learning disabilities. The purpose of this article is to discuss each of these factors and then provide recommendations for decreasing math failure among students with learning disabilities in postsecondary educational settings.
