摘要:
The Delicious Alphabet is a book consisting of photographs of sweets, drinks and savouries, arranged to correspond to the letters of the alphabet. It grew out of the author's concerns to support emergent reading and writing in ways which acknowledge young children's familiarity with community print. Ann Ketch discusses children's responses to the book and describes the direction her thinking is taking as a result of observing children reading it.

摘要:
Children as readers and writers‐and now as book artists too. Paul Johnson shows how children can be helped to learn the skills of book‐making, thus empowering them as writers and illustrators by helping them to become the creators of beautiful books. The story grammars of different cultures include the way a story is laid out for people to read; Paul Johnson describes book designs from various cultures and shows how different book forms require children to read and tell stories in certain ways. Illustrations of various designs are shown within the arti

摘要:
An important reminder that young children know how stories work, and are therefore able to use bibliographic and literary knowledge as they set about the task of learning to read books with maturity and competence. Sue Smedley shows four and five year olds working in intellectually demanding ways to recreate stories for themselves and argues that young children have a right to the kinds of books and stories which call for intelligent and imaginative responses.

摘要:
In many ways Simon is a competent writer and learner, and yet he needs to know more about spelling. Janet White analyses his strengths and looks closely at what he still needs to learn. She shows how it would be possible to devise an individual spelling programme for Simon which would help him to spell better without diminishing his obvious achievements as a writer.

摘要:
This article explores a number of issues which surround the term ‘dyslexia’. It has been written from the point of view of an adult literacy tutor who teaches and counsels adults on an adult literacy scheme and highlights some of the implications (and possible dangers) of labelling people as ‘dyslexic’. The article examines the ways in which dyslexia is diagnosed and looks at possible ‘cures’. Most importantly, it suggests ways to avoid ‘catching’ dyslexia in

摘要:
A detailed and thoughtful account of small‐group talk which highlights the difficulties of assessing each person's contribution. Paul Skelton shows how small‐group talk is heavily dependent on the personality, behaviour, attitudes, responses and language skills of each group member and his research leads him to conclude that teachers ought to give opportunities for assessment in a variety of group situations‐and even then, our judgements should only be temporary and provis
