摘要:
Over one quarter of a million single people in Sydney live alone in one-person households. Another 150,000 or more live as non-family household groups. While most of these live in groups of two, about 20,000 of them live in groups of 4 or more. (This in itself requires a stock of about 4,000 dwelling units.) Until now, no organisation has seen a need to research this group. However, investigation of the unpublished Census data shows it is difficult to identify sharing groups (since this class of information has not been specifically sought in the Census). In addition, the Census definition of ‘dwelling’ makes it possible for two (or more) families sharing a single house or flat to show up in the Census as occupying two (or more) “dwellings” thus possibly concealing a group of disadvantaged families.

摘要:
This paper outlines a multi-professional approach to problem solving that has been used in the third world as a contribution to the creation of an inter-professional collaborative capability among very senior managers in banking, government, construction, the building professions and elsewhere. The focus of this collaboration has been upon major programmes of economic and social development that involve constructed facilities. Those parts of the project cycle that are stressed are (i) the identification of needs, and (ii) the conceptualization and design of solutions and the planning for their political, economic and technical realization. Illustrations are provided of a projective case study that has been used to generate ideas for new housing for two countries in the West Indies. The approach appears to be valid for both less-developed and developed countries.

摘要:
Since 1976–77, economies have resulted in the price index of a new, low-cost house rising at a lower rate than the consumer price index or the price index of materials used in housebuilding. This paper suggests how further economies may be achieved, including simplifying detailed design, to reduce the on-site labour input. A procedure is described whereby manhour inputs, measured at the subelement and element levels of a dwelling, may be used to compare different designs in detail and so improve performance.
