An earth-sheltered structure built in the arid Negev Highlands of southern Israel was monitored during several seasonal periods in order to analyse its thermal behaviour and to determine the appropriateness of this type of building for the Negev and climatically similar regions. Temperatures were measured at various points within the building, which consists of two connected concrete shell domes totalling 58m2in floor area. A comparison of thermal conditions was made between various operating patterns, which included the introduction of shading and night ventilation for cooling and direct solar gain for heating. Mechanical heating was used in winter for the evaluation of energy input required to maintain comfort conditions. The paper analyses various thermal effects of the earth cover and of the particular envelope design, based on temperature measurements taken both in the interior space and within the soil, and evaluates the particular design approach taken in terms of its appropriateness for the given climatic conditions.

摘要:
Indoor air contaminants from building materials are often the major source of complaints. The demand for materials with low-emission characteristics is on the rise, along with the need for more sensitive and reliable emission studies. Air quality and product testing standards need to be revised and updated to take into account not only health effects, but also comfort considerations, especially for hypersensitive occupants. Modern building materials, including sealants and adhesives emit a rainbow of contaminants at ambient temperatures. The bake-out and demand controlled ventilation techniques are some attempts in reducing emissions after the materials have been installed.

摘要:
The use of mini-piles as a method of underpinning is relatively new since there has been a reluctance to use small diameter piles in ground conditions which may vary appreciably. Nonetheless mini-piles have certain advantages when used to underpin existing structures. In particular, the relatively small diameter holes can be drilled through the existing foundations allowing individual mini-piles to be placed at points of maximum loading. The manoeuvrability of purpose-built plant and equipment allows work to be undertaken at low cost and without excessive disruption.

摘要:
A study on climatic data for nearly 225 stations spread over the whole country has been carried out to determine climatic zones which may meet common basic design features in buildings and requirements of heat flow computations. The country is categorised in four major types of climates viz, hot-dry, warm-humid, temperate and cold and a sub-group “Composite”. The greater part of the country falls under composite followed by warm—humid zone.
