摘要:
AbstractAll dual‐arch impression techniques utilize special stock impression trays of various designs. These trays are made of flexible plastic with fabric or mesh material placed across the occlusal surfaces of the teeth connecting their buccal and lingual flanges. The presence of this material will result in errors by (1) not allowing complete intercuspation during impression‐taking; (2) producing incorrect recording of centric occlusion; and (3) because of the elastic memory of the tray/fabric, creating distortion of the elastic impression material. An impression technique is presented which provides a simple and effective method of obtaining dual‐arch impressions for single restorations, post and cores, and small bridges. This technique obivates the need for impression trays thus eliminating the errors out

摘要:
AbstractThe early detection of palatally impacted permanent maxillary canines is stressed. Appropriate radiographs to determine impactions are suggested and removal of deciduous canines to eliminate impactions in patients who have good dental arches with no space deficiency is recommended. Two case histories are presented to illustrate the method.

摘要:
AbstractFailures at composite resin/porcelain interfaces under shear‐like loading were examined. Porcelain surfaces were treated with hydrofluoric acid and/or one of two silane coupling agents, using two different composite resin cements. The results showed that after seven days storage, bond strengths of specimens which had undergone porcelain surface treatment were greater than the cohesive strength of the porcelain itself, resulting in brittle fracture of the porcelain. The diluted restorative composite resin performed as well as the commercial composite resin cement. Silane pre‐treatment of porcelain was important as the bond strength of etched/silane primed specimens was significantly higher than the etched only specimens. However, one primer appeared to be more efficient than the other in bond promotion. Some explanations for the differences in bond strengths are offe

摘要:
AbstractThe delivery of effective information flow through self learning, critical thinking and problem solving is one of the objectives of current curriculum development within the Dental Faculty of the University of Hong Kong. These objectives reflect a desire to encourage skills related to ‘comprehension learning’ and ‘meaning orientation’ rather than ‘rote’ learning and ‘surface’ approaches. This paper explains the way in which role‐play and psychodrama are used in an effort to achieve

摘要:
AbstractAcid‐etching of enamel margins, often combined with bevelling and use of a low viscosity resin, has resulted in improved sealing of composite restorations. When enamel is absent and margins involve dentine or cementum, microleakage is more often observed. The use of glass ionomer cement, as both a restorative material and as a base combined with a veneer of composite resin, has been advocated as a means of minimizing microleakage where margins are placed in dentine or cementum.Four restorative techniques incorporating glass ionomer cement were used,in vitro, to restore cervical cavities. After thermal cycling, dye penetration was scored along occlusal and gingival margins. In all instances the gingival margin exhibited a less reliable seal than the occlusal margin. The sandwich restorations produced a superior seal at both occlusal and gingival margins when compared with glass ionomer restorative cemen

摘要:
AbstractA case history and brief literature review of oral submucous fibrosis is presented. This condition is most frequently found in the Indian subcontinent and only rarely encountered elsewhere. The aetiology is considered to be related to dietary habits and customs found in the population. The condition has a known malignant potential. With increasing migration to Australia from the Indian subcontinent the condition should be known and recognized by clinicians.

摘要:
AbstractThis study examined voids produced in impressions of an automixed addition‐reaction silicone. Two operators took the impressions using material dispensed from either intra‐oral tips or an impression syringe. The material was also hand‐mixed for comparison. There were no differences in the number of voids in the automixed material dispensed using the intra‐oral tip or impression syringe. Automixing produced substantially fewer voids than hand‐mixing. There was a significant difference in the number of voids in the impressions made by the two

摘要:
AbstractMorphometrical and histochemical techniques were used to demonstrate changes to the cartilage layer of the rat temporomandibular joint condyle following chronic exposure to fluoride. An increase in thickness of the cartilage layer was noted in rats given 100 parts per million sodium fluoride in drinking water. No significant changes were observed with either control or low dose (10 parts per million) groups. The observed thickening was attributable to an increase in number and size of cells of the lower hypertrophic zone. Accumulations of glycogen were observed in these cells, which reflects the inhibitory effect of fluoride on glycolysis. Stimulation of chrondrocytes by fluoride may have delayed the normal prooesses of capillary invasion, resulting in thickening of the cartilage layer. No changes to staining patterns of immature or mature types of collagen were observed, nor did the staining pattern of detectable glycosaminoglycans change due to fluoride.
