摘要:
Coals from 28 Illinois Basin preparation plants, primarily in western Kentucky, were studied for maceral partitioning around several unit operations. Consideration was also given to two sets of plants with similar designs; in one case cleaning the same seam and in the other case cleaning three different seams. More consistent maceral partitioning was exhibited in the finer fractions than in the coarse coal with the fine clean coal being enriched in vitrinite and the fine refuse being enriched in fusinite plus semifusinite.

摘要:
A methodology for the interpolation of washabilily data is presented. This procedure provides a means whereby the washability data for both the weight and the attributes (e.g., ash, sulfur, etc.) can be interpolated for any size and/or relative density interval desired. Unlike some techniques which rely on the interpolation of interval values, this technique involves the interpolation of cumulative values. Since point values are used, there is no ambiguity as to what size or relative density corresponds to which interval value.

摘要:
To better understand the fundamental steps involved in the froth flotation process, the probability of collection has been determined for the flotation of a very hydrophobic, ash-free coal sample. The results show that probability of collection increases rapidly with decreasing bubble size, and the values are in good agreement with the theoretical collision probabilities predicted from Weber and Paddock's analysis.

摘要:
The use of the petrochemical and coking industries by-products as coal flotation reagents is evaluated. Wash oil, the coal tar distillation fractions, is shown to be an efficient and environmentally acceptable coal flotation reagent.

摘要:
Overall response to flotation of coal fines is improved by using mixtures of pine oil and methyl isobutyl carbinol as frother instead of either of them alone. Measurements of static froth height and surface tension of aqueous solutions of the frother are used to study the synergistic effect and to arrive at an optimum frother composition. The observations made in these studies are confirmed by flotation tests with coal fines from a coking coal washery using flotation columns of 100 and 220 mm diameter operating at nominal capacities of 20 and l00 kg hr−1respectively.
