摘要:
AbstractA systematic ultraviolet spectrophotometric study of the versenate complexes of cerium[III] and thorium[IV]in acidic solutions of various ionic strengths has been made. It has been found that the cerium[III]‐versenate complex in aqueous solution exhibited a characteristic absorbancy maximum at 285 mμ, and that cerium[III]and versenate ion reacted in the ratio of 1:1 to form a complex. The reaction between thorium[IV] and versenate ion has been studied by means of the cerium[III]‐versenate complex as an indicator. The result also indicated that thorium and versenate ion reacted in the 1:1 ratio. The formation constants[log Kf] obtained at ionic strength of 0.1, 0.3 and 0.5 for the complexes were extrapolated graphically to infinite dilution to give the corresponding thermodynamic constants of 16.75 and 20.13 at 25°C, respectively. For the determination of very small quantities of thorium, the spectrophotometric titration of standard cerium[III]‐versenate complex solution with thorium nitrate solution was performed by using the absorption band of cerium [III]‐versenate complex as an

摘要:
AbstractThe migration order of strontium and barium ions in aqueous citric acid solutions was reversed and the complete separation was found to be possible by the addition of methanol, ethanol, or isopropanol. The relative velocity of strontium to barium ions increases with the increasing proportion of alcohols to aqueous solutions. Separation of these ions from each other has been carried out at the field strength of 10, 20, and 37 volt/cm. At 37 volt/cm, strontium and barium ions were separated completely within 1, 2.5, and 6 hours in 80% methanol, ethanol, and isopropanoi solutions, respectively. The migration distances of strontium and barium ions in these solutions have been found to be 16.5, 13.2; 21, 12 and 24, 15 cm, respectively. The readiness for the separation depends on the use of solvents and decreases in the order of methanol, ethanol and 2‐propanol. The increase in partition coefficients is attributed to the addition of alcohol

摘要:
AbstractRecovery and purification of radiochemically useful isotopes, Msh1, MsTh2, ThB and ThC from commercially available aged thorium nitrate were studied by means of ion exchange method. The thorium ion, after having been converted to complex ions by the addition of complex forming reagents such as tartaric acid, citric acid and ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), was not retained by the cation exchange resin column of Dowex 50 in Na‐form when it was allowed to pass through, while its daughter decay products were retained. With the above mentioned organic acids as complex‐forming reagents, the amounts of recovery of the activities were of the following order: tartaric acid>citric acid>EDTA.Using 2NHCl as an eluting solution, MsTh, ThB and ThC were eluted out of the column, but MsTh2was left behind. The latter, however, could be eluted out when 4NHCl was used as eluting solution. When this effluents of 2NHCl was allowed to pass through another resin column of anion exchange resin, Amberlite IRA‐400 in chloride form, ThB and ThC were absorbed, and only MsTh1passed through without retention.Separation of ThB and ThC from each other was carried out by eluting with 8N HCl. By this treatment only ThB was eluted out off the column and ThC was still retained. ThC could be eluted out off the column by means of 2NH2SO4.Using the simple procedure outlined above, the authors succeeded in separating the radioactive decay daughters MsTh1, MsTh2, ThB and ThC from their parent Th232, and from one another. AbstractThe reaction between p‐bromophenylmagnesium bromide, p‐bromo‐magnesiophenylmagnesium bromide and cyclohexanone has been reinvestigated. AbstractExistence of D‐galactose and 3,6‐anhydro‐L‐galactose in the polysaccharide obtained from Pterocladia tenuis was confirmed. The polysaccharide extracted from Bangia fusco‐purpurea was fonud to consist of DL‐galactose, 3,6‐anhydro‐L‐galactose and 6‐0‐methyl‐D‐galactose.
