AbstractRadioactive equilibria in the hot spring sediment, Hokutolite, were studied, There were carried out the determination of the activity ratio of U‐series to Th‐series, and the accurate determination of the contents of the U‐series and Th‐series by absolute counting of β‐rays by using constant geometry method. The following nuclides were detected:Pb210and Pb212in the lead‐portion,Br210and Bi212in the bismuth‐portion,Ac28in the hydroxide‐portion.it was shown that the radioactive series in Hokutolite starts from Ra and the activity ratio of U‐series to Th‐series is close to 4. 摘要:
AbstractThe complex formation of uranyl ion withp‐methylaminophenol sulfate has been studied polarographically over thepHrange 1.5 to 4.7.A 1‐electron reversible reduction wave was observed in thispH range. AtpH. higher than 4.7, a reduction wave of complexing agent was produced.The diffusion current is proportional to the concentration of uranyl ion from 2.0×10−4Mto 5.1×10−3M. The diffusion current constant has been found to be 1.54±0.03, and the diffusion coefficient (7.96±0.2)×10−Gsq. cm. per second.Two hydrogen ions, in thepH range of 1.5 to 21, and one hydrogen ion, in thepH. range of 3.4 to 4.7, were consumed respectively by the reduction of three uranyl ions. 摘要:
AbstractA deep blue colored chelate compound resulting from the reaction between copper ion and glutamate was studied polarographically and spectrophotometrically.A single reversible wave corresponding to the reduction of the copper‐glutamate complex to the Cu(I) state was observed in thepH range 4.5 to 6.7.Only one kind of chelate compound, CuG2= was detected. The electrode reaction is formulated thus CuG2= + H++e=CuG−+ HG−The diffusion current constant is 3.13 for 0.2Mglutamic acid and 0.1Mpotassium chloride atpH 6.2.The copper‐glutamate complex (1:2) has an absorption maximum at 615 mμ. and its absorbance was constant at the widepH range 4.2 to 9.2. 摘要:
AbstractIt has been found that gallein can be used as an indicator in the direct chelatometric titration of a number of metals. A method based on this fact has been devised for the chelatometric determination of cadmium with disodium salt of EDTA.The optimumpH for the titration was found to be 9.5 to 10. A buffer solution consisting of ammonia and ammonium chloride was used to keep the solution at this optimumpH in the titration. The color of indicator changed from violet to magenta red at the end point.No interference was observed in the presence of a variety of anions and univalent cations.

摘要:
AbstractA method using Gallein as indicator for the direct titration of lanthanum with disodium salt of EDTA was proposed. With this indicator, lanthanum ion can be titrated at thepH of 5.5 to 6.5, using hexamethylenetetramine as buffer.At the end point, the violet color disappeared, giving rise to a red color. The interference of approximately equimolar concentration of various foreign ions was observed.Rare earth metal may be titrated along with lanthanum under the same conditions, as shown by the presence of cerium ion.

AbstractThe phenolic part from the essential oil ofChamaecyparis taiwanensisMasamune et Suzuki, extractives ofChamaecyparis formosensis Matsum. andTaiwania cryptomerioidesHay. were studied by using polyamide thin‐layer chromatography. The presence of chamaecin, chamenol, thymol, carvacrol,m‐isopropylphenol andp‐cresol in the essential oil ofChamaecyparis taiwanensisMasamune et Suzuki was confirmed. Carvacrol, o‐isopropylphenol,m‐isopropylphenol,o‐cresol andp‐cresol were also detected from extractives ofChamaecyparis formosensisMatsum. The chromatogram ofTaiwania cryptomerioidesHay. showed the presence of 12 spots. Among these, the spot withRfvalue 0.37 was identified as TaiwaninBand that withRf. value 0.80

摘要:
AbstractAn investigation was undertaken to study the effect of sex hormones on cholesterol biosynthesis by using the albino rats of the University of Southern California strain fed on three different kinds of diets: (a) Control diet, containing 15% cottonseed oil (I); (b) Diet (I) containing 1% cholesterol (II); (c) Fat‐free diet (III).By liver slice technique, the results showed the following:(1)In rats fed with control diet (I), the male had a much higher rate of cholesterol biosynthesis than the female; and the cholesterol biosynthesis in both male and female rats was decreased by gonadectomy as compared with the intact male and female animals on the same diet.(2)In rats fed with diet (II) or (III), the cholesterol biosynthesis was greatly decreased, due to the feeding of cholesterol‐containing or fat‐free diet so that gonadectomy caused no more distinct effect on the cholesterol biosynthesis.(3)The cholesterol biosynthesis was greatly enhanced by sex hormone administration in rats fed the three kinds of different diets.The effect of sex hormones to increase the cholesterol biosynthesis in liver is probably their secondary influence caused by their primary influence to reduce the liver cholesterol by different mecha
