摘要:
AbstractInterferometry has been applied by the direct measurement of the concentration distribution around a silver single crystal growing electrochemically in a thin (100 μm thick) cell. It has been shown that due to the cell thickness the natural convections do not play any appreciable role, and the process is essentially diffusion controlled. The morphological stability of the growing crystal has been studied and electrolytic whisker formation was observed. Some preliminary results concerning a.c. effect on the diffusion field surrounding the crystal were obtained as well

摘要:
AbstractThe kinetics of scale growth on a cooling surface from quiescent aqueous solutions of oxalic acid, Na2HPO4× 12 H2O, KNO3, Na2SO4× 10 H2O, and Na3PO4× 12 H2O saturated at 65, 32, 48.2, 31, and 39.2 °C, resp., was studied. The incurstations formed during 2 min of growth consist of loosely packed dendrites or needle‐like crystals (the former 3 substances), or of tightly packed crystals forming a scale with a “smooth surface” (the latter 2 salts). The kinetic order of growth,g, assessed on the basis of experimental data was smaller than unity in all the studied cases; thegvalues of smooth incrustations were higher than those of the dendritic ones. It follows from the considerations concerning the possible mechanism of scale growth that the growth is controlled by a mononuculear mechanism. 摘要:
AbstractIn growing crystals by the new gel technique a principal difficulty may arise in that it may be difficult or at times impossible to choose two nutrients that may react to produce the desired crystals. With some crystals, the pair of nutrients that may appear practically most suitable, may not react at all or the rate of reaction may be exceedingly small. Further work on the new gel technique has now led to an improvement of the technique by which it is feasible to impart activity to nutrients which are normally non‐reactive or to enhance the reactivity of generally less reactive nutrients. Large needles of PbCl2and PbBr2have been grown in silica gel by this improvement of the new gel technique.
