AbstractAttempts are reported to interprete quantitatively glass transition measurements for blends of poly(2,6‐dimethylphenylene oxide) (PPO) and poly(styrene‐co‐α‐methylstyrene) or poly(α‐methylstyrene). These blends are found to be miscible over the whole composition and molecular weight ranges. Furthermore, the influence of thermal annealing on the glass transition temperature is studied. It is shown that blends containing poly(α‐methylstyrene) or copolymers are in some cases very sensitive to thermal degradation. AbstractIn the 2‐furaldehyde based polymer investigated by ESR, at 300 K 4. 1018spins/g with g = 2.00306have been observed (presumably carbon centered polyenyl radicals). AbstractThe conditions of fibre formation by melt spinning of a thermoplastic elastomeric poly(ether ester) based on poly(butylene terephthalate) and poly(ethylene oxide) glycol with molecular weight of 1000 are studied. Some properties of both the starting polymer and the final fibres are discussed. A highly regular structure of the fibre is observed by scanning electron microscopy.

AbstractThe reasons for macroscopic changes of the toughness of isotactic polypropylene filled with different types of calcium carbonate are studied. The changes are analyzed on the basis of unnotched and notched impact strength, and on microscopic observations of fracture surfaces. The results are discussed with respect to the matrix and amount and size of the filler particles.

AbstractThe sorption of Fe3+and Cu2+ions on a fibrous polyampholyte synthesized by modification of PAN fibres with EDA is studied by thermodynamic methods. The endothermic adsorption process and the positive change of the entropy of the system with the established effect of compensation between ΔHand ΔSare an indication for the complicated mechanism of the chemisorption with complex formation. The complexes formed with the both ions are different. ThepH value of the metal salt solutions affect strongly on the adsorption process. AtpH>2 sorption of Cu2+dominates, while at lowerpH values sorption of Fe3+prevail
