AbstractFumaric acid derivatives, dialkyl fumarates, alkyl N,N‐diethylfumaramates, and N,N,N′,N′‐tetraalkylfumaramides with bulky substituents were homopolymerized in the presence of a radical initiator to give high molecular weight and less‐ or non‐flexible substituted polymethylenes. Dialkyl maleates were also homopolymerized by preceding isomerization to the respective dialkyl fumarates in the presence of both an azo initiator and morpholine (isomerization catalyst). N‐Substituted maleimides underwent homopolymerization to give high molecular weight polymers, which have high thermal stability. These polymers were characterized as a new rigid polymer. Polymerization reactivities of the monomers and some properties of the resulting polymers are described

AbstractThe anionic polymerization may serve as an excellent method for preparing molecules of well defined architecture. The reaction, however, in each single case has to be investigated in detail to make sure to what an extent the living character is pertained and what kind of peculiarities may occur.

AbstractSyntheses and properties of some novel functional oligomers and functional or segmental polymers thereof are reported. First part of the paper concerns the synthesis and properties of high performance segmental engineering polymers. These polymers contain crosslinked network units as rigid segments, linked by linear spacers, derived from the functionally terminated thermoplastic oligomers. Structure‐properties relationships are discussed. Second part of the paper refers to the syntheses and possible applications of novel functional oligomers and polymers, containing cyclophosphazene moieties, particular attention being paid to the functional polymers with bioactive aziridinylcyclophosphazene units linked by specific biodegradable spacer

AbstractThe mechanism of the thermal oxidation of polyethylene and polypropylene is discussed, based on the observations concerning the oxidation products. The reactions leading to the active radical and molecular intermediate products are given and the differences in the number and structure of the intermediates formed from the two polymers are pointed out. The solid and volatile products of the oxidation are listed, their relative quantities and the probable formation mechanism of the important products are given.

AbstractNew methods to obtain polymeric heterogeneous systems with highly dispersed second phase and the analysis of some phenomena at the interface considering mainly electrical properties of such systems are discussed. It is shown that a consideration of the charge transfer effects at the interface is necessary to explain the experimental results.
