摘要:
The patient with major burn injury experiences a hyper-metabolic stressed state with pronounced energy and caloric demands that, if not met, result in impaired wound healing, decreased resistance to infection, and a loss of lean body tissue. When the patient with a functional gastrointestinal tract is unable or unwilling to meet these nutritional needs by diet alone, the preferred method for delivery of exogenous calories is through enteral tube feedings. This article presents critical care nursing techniques which provide nutritional support for the burn patient.

摘要:
Major changes are being made in infection control nationwide. New categories, new precautions, and new diseases are being discussed. Application of the new infection control guidelines in critical care will require management decisions regarding admissions of patients and environmental adaptations. This first article focuses on the increased critical care nursing responsibilities caused by the flexibility now provided in these new guidelines. The second article in this set focuses on the controversies these new guidelines present for the critical care nurse.

摘要:
Although a great deal of work was obviously put into the newGuideline for Isolation Precautions in Hospital‘, some inconsistencies and unclear information remain a problem when applying it to practice. The purpose of this commentary is to present a critical review of the controversies surrounding the application of these new guidelines. The critical care nurse, manager, and infection control practitioner must consider their position on these controversies to apply the guidelines to their practice.
