摘要:
The present paper studies the dynamic characteristics of hyperbolic cooling towers with various types of stiffening. Stiffeners in both the meridional and circumferential directions are assumed to be sufficiently close that analysis may be simplified to that of a shell with orthotropic material properties.

摘要:
This paper describes the application of expert systems in traffic-actuated control at isolated signalized intersections. The expert system EXACT (EXpert system of ACtuated control for Traffic at isolated intersections) was developed to assist traffic engineers in selecting the appropriate type of traffic-actuated controller and its associated features, the type of detector and its configuration, and time settings at a particular intersection. EXACT was structured to handle both design and operational problems. The first steps of EXACT's development, including variable identification, shell selection, knowledge acquisition, and knowledge representation, are presented in detail in this paper.

摘要:
The control of construction activities usually involves monitoring and manipulating multiple attributes at the same time. In this paper, a multi-attribute real-time control system for construction activities is presented. The proposed system monitors and controls two or more attributes, utilizing a set of single-attribute control systems operating in parallel. The proposed system includes a conflict resolution unit which is responsible for resolving any conflicting commands resulting from the individual parallel control systems. A feed-forward control loop is also integrated in the proposed model. The feed-forward loop assesses the controllability of the system, and either permit operation, stop operation or suggests adjusting the control standards.

摘要:
This paper presents a method for operational leakage reduction and security enhancement of water distribution networks using optimised on-line control of pressure reducing valves and variable speed pumps. An earlier algorithm which uses valve control only has been extended to solve the combined problem of controlling valves and variable speed pumps, and furthermore, new hydraulic constraints have been added. The problem is formulated as an optimisation of the system pressure profile subject to the network hydraulic balance and system operational constraints. A solution technique based on successive linear programming is described. Sparsity techniques are employed to achieve computational efficiency. The effectiveness of the pressure control scheme is illustrated using an example network.

摘要:
Optimization models have been used in reservoir management problems to facilitate the satisfaction of various demands. One frequently ignored problem is the reservoir operation quality. The resulting operation curves may have sharp changes in the storage level of the reservoir or in the release to the downstream channel, which has potentially negative impact on the quality of reservoir operation. A Goal Programming model involving a min-max objective has been developed herein to determine operating policies, which attempts to remedy such problems. The results show a significant improvement in the reservoir operation.
