摘要:
The five species of Cyprididae collected from anchialine habitats of the Galapagos Islands includeParacypris crispa, previously described from marine caves and reefs on Bermuda, and the freshwater speciesStrandesia stocki, which is widely distributed in wells of the West Indies. Three new species,Dolerocypria ensigera, Mungava rectaandHansacypris galapagosensis, contribute to more precise understanding of these circumtropical genera. A review of known soft‐anatomical characters for 68 species of Paracypridinae, five of which are transferred to different genera, reveals too many inconsistencies for a simple hypothesis. The current classification of Paracypridinae into three tribes and 18 genera may be overly subdivided, and elevation of Paracypridinae to family rank is not warrante

摘要:
The harpacticoid copepodDanielssenia pereziMonard, 1935 is redescribed on the basis of the only available material from the Scilly Isles off south‐west Britain.Sentireniagen. novis erected because this species exhibits significant differences from the type speciesDanielssenia typicaBoeck, 1872 in the structure of the antennule; the presence of sensory aesthetascs on, and structure of, the mandible, maxillula and maxilla; the form of the female P5; the setation of the swimming legs and details of the sexual dimorphism on the endopod of the male P2. Further, it is shown that the characters by whichD. parapereziSoyer, 1970 was originally distinguished fromD. pereziare no longer valid andD. parapereziis a junior synonym ofS. pereziwhich now assumes a boreo‐mediterranean distribution. A re‐examination of the type material ofD,eastwardaeCoull, 1971 shows that this species is identical toS. pereziin the structure of the mouthparts (including the presence of aesthetascs on the mandible, maxillula and maxilla) and setation of P1–P5. However, within the genusSentirenia, its specific status is maintained by virtue of a 5‐segmented female antennule; a difference in the shape of the endopodal lobe of the female P5; the sexually dimorphic characters of the male P2 endopod; and variation in the ornamentation of some a

摘要:
Prothoracic tracheal apparatuses ofAcanthoplus speiseriBrancsik andEnyaliopsiscf.matebelensisPer., are described. The vesicula femoralis for the apparatus of each species differs from the condition considered by Zeuner (1936a) to be typical for the subfamily Hetrodinae to which the two species belong.Acanthoplus speiseripossesses a horn‐shaped apparatus, whileE.cf.matebelensisbears a trumpet‐shaped structure. The horn‐shaped prothoracic tracheal apparatus was previously reported to be a specialized structure in the ‘Bradyporoid group’ of Zeuner (1936a). The trumpet‐shaped apparatus is reported for the first time in the subfamily. The problems of using the prothoracic tracheal apparatus as a taxonomic character in classifying the tettigoniid subfamilies and the implications of the presence of the atypical prothoracic tracheal apparatuses in the Hetrodinae to the classification of the Tettigoniidae ar

摘要:
Plethodontid salamanders of the genusDesmognathusexhibit varying levels of genetic differentiation among and within both allopatric and sympatric taxa. This provides excellent opportunities to study population differentiation and speciation. Two morphologically similar species in this genus,D. imitatorandD. ochrophaeus, are genetically well‐differentiated from one another and occur in sympatry with no evidence of hybridization and introgression. We report that the degree of sexual isolation between these two species is very high, regardless of whether the populations under comparison are allopatric or sympatric with one another. Neither reinforcement nor reproductive character displacement are required to explain the evolution of sexual incompatibility in sympatry. Sexual behaviour apparently diverges while populations are allopatric with one another. Preliminary study indicates thatD. imitatorconsists of populations among which there may be significant sexual isolation in the absence of detectable genetic differentiatio

摘要:
The megasters ofT. aurantiumandT. citrinaconsist, in their mature stage, of spherasters and spheroxyasters respectively. A study of the ratio between the ray length and the diameter of the centre (R/C), which determines the megaster shape, has been carried out on spicules of different size. While the small megasters of these two species have a similar shape, successive stages show inT. aurantiuman isometric growth and inT. citrinaan allometric growth with rays growing faster than the centre. The two species differ also in the mean size, size frequency distribution and number of rays of the asters. Differences in the mean total diameter and shape were also detected among spicules coming from different regions of the sponge body. The taxonomic and evolutionary meaning of these phenomena are discussed.
