AbstractAn account of the 19 Scrophulariaceae found on Zimbabwean inselbergs is given, based on studies of 53 inselbergs. Habitat preferences and importance of inselbergs as habitats are discussed.Lindernia syncerusSEINE, FISCHER&BARTHLOTT from Umfurudzi Safari Area is described. The new combinationCrepidorhopalon debilis(SKAN) FISCHER is made, the occurrence of the species is reported for the Flora Zambesiaca Area for the first time.

AbstractThe foliar anatomy of fourCelosiaspecies occurring in southwestern Nigeria is described. The distinguishing characteristics of taxonomic value include the petiole shapes in distal, median and proximal regions, arrangement of vascular supply to the petioles, presence or absence of protuberances on the polar ends of the stomata and size as well as the arrangement of crystals in the leaf blade. The use of anatomy in distinguishing two closely related speciesC. argenteaandC, cristatais discussed.

AbstractThe polypeptide composition of the large and small subunits of ribulose‐1,5‐bisphosphate carboxylase/oxy‐genase (RUBISCO) fromCardaria draba(L.) DESV. (Brassicaceae) and from representatives of the related genusLepidiumL. have been studied by isoelectric focusing (IEF) analysis. In the literatureCardariaDESV. is either treated as a separate genus or as a section within the genusLepidium Cardaria draba(L.) DESV. and threeLepidiumtaxa of sectionLepia(DESV.) DC. are characterized by identical polypeptide patterns otherwise not found inLepidium. AbstractPollen morphological studies have been carried out in all the annual species ofCicerL. including four varieties of the cultivated speciesC. arietinum, using LM and SEM. Pollen grains are 3‐zonocolporate with large lolongate endocolpia inC. arietinum, C. cuneatum, C. judaicum, C. pinnatifidum, C. reticulatumandC. yamashitae, and 3‐parasyncolporate inC. bijugum, C. chorassanicumandC. echinospermum. Exine surface ornamentation in these species is reticulate, fossulatereticulate or pitted at the mesocolpium. In case of reticulate exine surface, the number of lumina/cm2counted at the mesocolpium has been used as an additional parameter for delineating the species. A pollen morphological similarity between the wild speciesC. reticulatumand the cultivated speciesC. arietinumwith respect to apertural feature and exine surface ornamentation supports the view of LADIZINSKY and ADLER (1976a, b), that the former species could be the possible wild progenitor of the cultivated chick
