Most of the current available information for average life expectancy is based on the assumptions that the person in question would be expected to live an average life span and that his or her health/medical/survival status is no different from that of an “average” individual. The use of appropriate life expectancy tables is extremely important when calculating economic losses whether one is considering medical costs, lost wages, or pension liability. The life expectancy of a particular individual may be different than that indicated in the general life tables, either because of the tort itself, or due to a medical condition present prior to the tort. Such evidence can often be provided by a competent physician or other medical expert, but in the absence of such information it may be necessary for the researchers to estimate mortality rates and life expectancy based upon published data. This paper provides an explanation for researchers to compute reasonable precise estimates of life expectancies for those with specific diseases or afflictions.

In this paper we review the connections between two-bridge knots and links, continued fractions and generalized Euclidean algorit.hms. Then, using a generalized Euclidean algorithm in which each partial quotient is even, we provide a constructive method demonstrating that every two-bridge knot and link has period two. Using the algorithm we develop, we are also able to obtain an additional method for computing the linking number of two-bridge links.

An identity for the conditional expectation of the general functions of adjacent order statistics is given, which is valid in a class of conditional probability distributions. The standard cost minimizing transportation problem aims at the cost of transportation, while the time minimizing transportation problem focuses attention only on minimizing the time of transportation. In between the two extremes of minimization of cost and minimization of time, there exist a number of situations where a Transportation System Decision Maker would like a partial trade-off on cost to attain a certain degree of time advantages. In this paper, trade-off between the total shipping cost and time of transport is analyzed by solving the transportation problem with an additional restriction. An algorithm generating all solutions that are pareto-optimal with respect to the shipping cost and completion-date is developed for its solution.

The intervening duality idea was introduced in Ryan (1995) with a context of linear programming characterizations of two person constant sum coin tossing games in which two individuals are modelled as playing as if simultaneously against nature and against each other by making themselves dual to the duals of an intervening coin. The purpose of this paper is to extend intervening duality characterizatione, and by that means to model explicitly subjectively interactive processes of specification and solution to non constant sum bimatrix games the Prisoner’s Dilemma and collusion, Stackelberg and Cournot solutions, to the duopoly problem.
