The main goal of this paper is to consider a motion of a perfect fluid which has a free boundary and has a solid bottom represented by a circle. In this paper bifurcation branches emanating from trivial solution are found. To this end the method of conformal mapping is used. By this device the free boundary problem is transformed into a boundary value problem in a fixed domain.

WhenXis a compact subset of Cnand 0 <α≤ 1, we define subalgebras of the Lipschitz algebras Lip(X, α) andlip(X, α), which are generated by polynomials, rational functions with poles offX, functions which are analytic in some neighbourhood ofX, or functions which are analytic in the interior ofX. We investigate their maximal ideal spaces and the equality among them. For certain compact plane setsX, we extend a result due to Dales and Davie, by showing that every continuously differentiable function onXcan be approximated by rational functions inlip(X, α) norm. Finally we show that the algebra of rational functions with poles offXis dense inlip(X, α) on any compact plane setX, with planar measure zero, and then extend this result for particular compact subsets of Cn,n> 1.

The two-dimensional steady flow of a viscous incompressible fluid in a diverging symmetrical channel is examined. The paper exploits a new series summation and improvement technique (i.e. Drazin and Tourigny, 1996). The solutions are expanded into Taylor series with respect to the corresponding Reynolds number and the bifurcation study is perfomed. Parameter ranges for the Reynolds number, where no, one or two solutions of the given type exist, are computed.

A fluid with viscosity which depends on temperature and concentration is placed between two infinite parallel plates moving relative to each other with constant velocity. On the basis of certain simplifying assumptions, the fluid equations of continuity, momentum, energy and concentration are obtained and solved analytically. A non-linear integro-differential equation is derived which governs the fluid velocity component parallel to the walls and a parameter perturbation technique is suggested and utilized for its solution. Using the Padé approximants technique, the series summation and improvement is performed. The effect of viscosity variation due to variation in temperature and concentration on the fluid flow is discussed quantitatively.

An absolutely representing system (ARS) in a Banach spaceXis a setD⊂Xsuch that every vectorxinXadmits a representation by an absolutely convergent seriesx= Σiaixiwith (ai) ⊂Rand (xi) ⊂D. We investigate some general properties of absolutely representing systems. In particular, absolutely representing systems in uniformly smooth and in B-convex Banach spaces are characterized viaε-nets of the unit balls. Every absolutely representing system in a B-convex Banach space is quick, i.e., in the representation above one can achieve ∥aixi∥ <cqi∥x∥,i= 1, 2,… for some constantsc> 0 andq∈ (0,1).
