Given an R-module V, the near-ring of homogeneous maps MR(V) is the set of maps {f:V→ V |f(rv)=rf(v)for allrb.epsis;Rand v b.epsis;V} endowed with point-wise addition and composition of functions as multiplication. Modules with the property thatMR(V)= EndR(V)and those with the property thatMR(V)is a ring, will be characterized in certain cases. It will also be investigated whether these are local properties.

We discuss the existence of a projection with kernelKb(E,F)1(the annihilator of the quasi-compact operators) on the dual space of the spaceLb,(E, F)of continous linear operators. Our results are proved in the context of Hausdorff locally convex spaces, but also provide extensions of recent results in the context of Banach spaces.

Several questions naturally arising from the unique existence of the completion of a nearness frame are investigated. In particular, the classical result that completion is a coreflection for uniform frames is extended to a substantially larger class of nearness frames but at the same time shown not to hold in general, and an analogue of this is established for the mere functoriality of the completion. Further, a natural variant of the notion of completion is studied, leading among other things to a completely new coreflection result.

In this paper we generalize the well-known Vietoris-Begle theorem to uniform spaces. We formulate two uniform versions: one for the Čech cohomology based on all finite uniform coverings and one for the Čech cohomology based on all uniform coverings.

We show that the Tarski-Kantorovitch Principle for continuous maps on a partially ordered set yields some fixed point theorems for contractive maps on a uniform space. Our proofs do not depend on the Axiom of Choice.

In this paper we introduce new characterizations of the Wallman compactification among theT1compactifications of a space. We then use one of these characterizations to investigate conditions which would imply that an intermediate Wallman space have a Wallman compactification homeomorphic to the original compactification. The most general of these conditions is that disjoint closed subsets of the intermediate space have disjoint closures in the compactification. This has, as a special case, the consequence that ifX ⊆ Y ⊆ Xand ifY\Xis closed inWX\X, thenWY≅W X.

We show that aB-conjunctive frameL, whereBis a normal base forLgives rise to a strong inclusion onLand therefore a compactification ofL.The resulting compact regular frame corresponds to the quotient frame obtained by Johnstone in his construction of the Wallman compactification for frames. It is also shown that, in the presence of pseudocompactness the Wallman compactification and the Wallman realcompactification coincide.
