摘要:
This paper is a summary of the Second Interim Report (September 1984) of the work of the Industrie-University Foundation, Brussels, Belgium, on one of the projects within the ‘Industry-University Action Research and Evaluation Programme’*. This project is described as an evaluation of and proposals for corrective action concerning assumed deficiencies in the general education of professionally trained persons which hamper their ability to serve effectively at more senior levels of managerial responsibility.

摘要:
The Advanced College of RMIT has embarked upon an experiment in technological education by which it hopes to close the gap between the ‘culture’ of liberal education and the ‘culture’ of engineering and applied science. The experiment is called the Context Curriculum. This paper will describe the design of and the rationale for this curriculum and invite commentTand suggestions for its improvement.

摘要:
The writer expresses concern with what he claims is the present overemphasis on computational work in engineering education. He argues that there is an over-emphasis on numerical questions in undergraduate examinations in engineering, and that mastery of concepts is not necessarily tested by this type of question. He attempts to demonstrate, and to confirm by means of research which he has carried out in his own department, that the introduction of problems which are not predominantly computational can lead to deeper overall comprehension by learners.
