摘要:
UNESCO's Engineering Education and Training programme is concerned with the growing demand for clean and economical energy. For the power/energy engineer of today the need for up-to-date information in engineering and technologies of renewables has never been greater. Increasing global demand and safety, environmental implications of cleanliness, health and safety, the economic viability of natural energy resources and renewable energy technologies, the ethical responsibility of engineers towards society and conservation are all components of UNESCO's interdisciplinary approach to advanced college students, postgraduates and practising engineers. Priority actions in the various energy fields are addressed, including the assessment of specific education and training needs and the capabilities of existing institutions to meet these needs.

CEFINET is an information service available on the World Wide Web about French higher studies in engineering. The development of CEFINET was eased through 20 years of investigations and studies on engineering education by Comite d'Etudes sur la Formation d'Ingenieurs. Currently, this service includes databases on engineering education in France, including engineering schools, and general information aimed at foreign students wishing to find their way through a somewhat peculiar maze of colleges and degrees. It is intended to extend the information services in several directions, including employment opportunities, and cross-European information.

SUMMARY The Working Group on Curriculum Development of Société Européenne pour la Formation des Ingéniews has recognized a need for more comprehensive presentations of European engineering education systems. This article describes the changes that Danish engineering education is undergoing. The titles civilingeniør and diplomingeniør are described, as are the institutions offering engineering education. Previously, there were two engineering societies in Denmark—now there is only one.

摘要:
The terms control/computer systems, production systems, organizations, macro-and microscopic biological entities and human activities at the individual and group level in society refer to areas concerned with action through purposive systems. The action is aimed at specified changes of properties of some user by means of a product. Engineering as a discipline is preoccupied with such changes and, as such, involves the activities of control/computer and production systems and organizations. Purposive activity is seen as an agent capable of integrating the diverse topics into a coherent scheme. The evolution of change leading to change in the context of the user/receiver-product-purposive system chain is described. The basic notions of a system theory based on linguistic modelling capable of dealing with the propagation of qualitative properties towards an outcome are outlined. The contents and methods of current engineering courses are briefly reviewed. The method of construction of novel kinds of engineering courses is suggested, together with an outline scheme for one such course.

摘要:
Engineering education at tertiary level is changing in order to reflect the need for an integrated approach to problem-based learning. Problem-solving techniques related to engineering applications have been used frequently to clarify difficult analytical concepts and theories. However, there is still a need to integrate various engineering disciplines by using different tools and approaches. The main objective of this paper is to present a problem-solving approach to analysis, synthesis and dynamics of mechanisms and machines using computer algebra systems. By using various analytical methods and the graphic capabilities of such mathematical software, it is possible to illustrate and implement, in a creative way, many areas including kinematic and dynamic analysis, vibration analysis and programming. Students generally considered these areas to be difficult.

摘要:
The aim of this teaching experiment, which was performed with first-year engineering students at a technical institute, was to teach the force concept in a new way. In general, the research was based on constructivism and, especially, the planning of the new course was based on constructivism research into students' learning. As expected, the new course helped students to understand the interaction idea of the force concept, whereas the idea of relating force to motion remained common even after the course. In general, the results reinforce the importance of the teacher's awareness of students' preconceptions.

Engineering students are best able to understand theory when one explains it in relation to realistic problems and its practical applications. Teaching theory in isolation has led to lower levels of comprehension and motivation and a correspondingly higher rate of failure. At Queensland University of Technology, a number of new methods have been introduced recently to improve the teaching and learning of steel structural design at undergraduate level. In the basic steel structures subject a project-based teaching method was introduced in which the students were required to analyze, design and build the lightest/most efficient steel columns for a given target capacity. A design assignment involving simple, but real structures was also introduced in the basic steel structures subject. Both these exercises simulated realistic engineering problems from the early years of the course and produced a range of benefits. Improvements to the teaching and learning were also made through integration of a number of related structural engineering subjects and by the introduction of animated computer models and laboratory models. This paper presents the details of all these innovative methods which improved greatly the students’ understanding of the steel structures design process.

摘要:
Numerical analysis and programming, use of application programs and a proper understanding of program suites written for professional applications are three essential phases in the use of computing in a civil engineering degree course. In the course offered by the Papua New Guinea University of Technology, a conventional approach is adopted to teaching numerical analysis and programming during the first and second years. During the third and final years, a project oriented-approach is adopted for students to learn applications programming, computer-aided analysis, design and drawing. The approach is welcomed by employers and graduates alike as providing optimum value during the early years of employment as an engineer.
