摘要:
This paper surveys some general issues related to simulation. Random number generation and the simulation of specific probability distributions are discussed. It is shown how statistical methods, especially graphical ones, can be used to analyze data from simulation experiments and to plan such experiments. Finally, the paper discusses how antithetic variables can be used in variance reduction. Throughout the paper the use of computers is considered.

摘要:
This paper describes MultiTool, a new programming shell for use in developing multi-media education and training applications with microcomputer-based software and videodisk-based images. This system was generalized from a prototype system that was developed for teaching construction equipment and methods. MultiTool enables other users to develop their own education and training applications. It provides a variety of standard development options that perform distinctly different functions. It also includes libraries of graphic designs, function buttons, interface elements and video drivers. The potential impact of this program resides in improving the quality and productivity of training and education in engineering, science and other fields

摘要:
Product design and evaluation require a broad and varied set of information and analysis tools, and effective design and evaluation of a product during its design phase is critical if production costs are to be minimized. A system is described that integrates product design specifications with material and process databases, and a simulation-based analysis module. The system allows product design specifications to be evaluated in terms of economic and technical criteria. The system will serve as a training tool in the computer-integrated manufacturing courses in our undergraduate curriculum. It allows students to investigate ways to design better products through integration of design and manufacturing, and to explore trade-offs between design and manufacturing

摘要:
We discuss teaching applications of new personal computer (PC) and workstation programs for simulating dynamic systems and neural networks. DESIRE software permits truly interactive modeling without the usual annoying time delays imposed by FORTRAN compilation and linking. DESIRE/NEUNET brings similar convenience to the interactive design of systems which include neural networks. Neuron-layer interconnections are described in a readable matrix language. We introduce PC simulation under OS/2 and workstation programs for UNIX/OPEN WINDOWS, and dwell briefly on the impact of these new operating systems on educational simulation laboratories

摘要:
The introduction, in the 1970s, of the CYCLONE (YCLic Operation NEt-tuorks) simulation methodology established simulation of construction systems as an active area for teaching and research. Since then, there has been considerable progress in developing sophisticated simulation-based methods for the analysis of construction processes, and in educational approaches to teach these methods that can be easily incorporated within the construction engineering and management curriculum. CYCLONE, and more specifically MicroCYCLONE, a microcomputer-based program based on this simulation methodology, offer a simple graphical system for the analysis, modeling and experimentation of construction operations. The programs can be readily understood by anyone familiar with construction processes-from construction engineering students to engineering and field personnel. This paper discusses the integration of process simulation into construction engineering education, including a brief description of the general configuration and implementation of the system, and a discussion on some of the problems associated with teaching simulation and possible solutions

摘要:
An overview of the PC-based SIMPLE_1 simulation environment is presented, with an emphasis on features that make it easy to learn and use. The author draws from personal experience with the language in teaching, research and consulting. Examples are drawn from classroom assignments which illustrate features of the language and underscore its ease of use. The ability to create easily custom screens for user interaction via the keyboard for animation during the simulation and for reporting the results is emphasized and illustrated

摘要:
Engineers and scientists are becoming aware of the contributions they can make to society and of their responsibility to make these contributions. Global modeling offers a good introduction to problems of society and to solid technical challenges which can appeal to engineering students. Since many engineering professors are not well acquainted with global modeling, we have identified and report here the best possible references, models and accompanying computer programs, and simulation games. With these, teachers may become sufficiently familiar with the field to develop courses and collect resource materials for the students

摘要:
This paper reports on the 65 courses which were described by faculty responding to a questionnaire sent out by the authors to all industrial engineering university programmes in the US. The purpose of the questionnaire was to obtain information regarding the organization and content of simulation courses in industrial engineering programmes. This paper includes a summary of the responses, including the number of courses using various programming languages and textbooks, the proportion of courses teaching various simulation topics, examples of typical open-ended project assignments and many other course characteristics. The paper concludes by recommending future continuing dialog between faculty members involved in this teaching activity

摘要:
In engineering education, design provides an excellent project-based environment in which to teach the fundamentals of synthesis, analysis and decision-making. It is proposed to create a computer-based teaching tool which provides a close simulation of the design environment. All activities of design, i. e. problem definition, conceptualizing, analysis, decision-making and documentation, are envisioned to be part of the simulation, which should be flexible in its use and highly interactive, with the student in full control for maximum learning benefit. While some real difficulties are foreseen in simulating the conceptual and intuitive areas of the design process, the more structured aspects of the design process are already computerized in engineering practice. Restricting the proposed simulation to a specific field of design should make the development of such a teaching tool entirely possible
