A record is given of 17 hindquarter amputations performed by the author between 1949 and 1970. The history of the development of this procedure is given, together with an account of the indications and results.

In a series of 50 cadaveric renal allotransplants performed between September, 1969, and February, 1973, a simple technique of uretero‐vesical anastomosis performed from outside the bladder was utilized. Intravenous pyelography with a micturating cystographic phase was performed at regular intervals following operation in an attempt to define the incidence of mechanical urinary tract complications. Four cases of urinary leakage occurred, three requiring reoperation, and there was one case of ureteric obstruction due to a lymph cyst, Five cases of reflux into the transplanted ureter were demonstrated. Phœochromocytomas have many pathological and clinical features of interest. The present case report concerns a patient with two tumours, one of which was present in the middle mediastinum. This is only the second time that such an occurrence has been reported. The case is reported of a patient who developed the carcinoid syndrome when metastases appeared in the liver after resection of the primary ileal tumour. A right hepatic lobectomy was followed by complete remission of symptoms for 15 months, even though local removal of further liver metastases became necessary because of biochemical evidence of recurrence. Finally, systemic spread of the tumour became apparent. Two years after the original resection the patient appeared to be in the terminal phase of the disease. The protean manifestations of the carcinoid syndrome are reviewed, and the conclusion is reached that surgical removal of liver metastases can produce worth‐while palliation even in the presence of advanced disease. The importance of proper operative management, including anaesthesia, is stressed. More long‐term study and the publication of complete case reports seem necessary to delineate the prognosis of the carcinoid syndrome when this is treated surgica

A case is described of the diagnostic dilemma presented by a mass in the fundus of the stomach which proved at laparotomy to be caused by a large granulation tissue mass central to accessory splenic tissue.
