摘要:
The Cloward technique for intervertebral fusion was utilized on 12 horses ranging from 3 months to 2 years of age. Of the 12 horses, 9 had been diagnosed as having equine cervical vertebral malformation (CVM) or “wobbles,” and 3 were normal controls. A large hole was drilled from the ventral border of the vertebral bodies spanning the intervertebral disc and the vertebral end plates of the 2 articulating vertebrae. Frozen homologous bone dowels of slightly larger diameter from equine cadaver ilia were inserted in the holes. No adverse postoperative complication arose. Clinical improvement was seen in all horses with CVM. Three months postoperatively, partial or complete fusion was evident radiographically in 11 of the 12 horses. Necropsies were performed 3–6 months postoperatively to evaluate the quality of the fusion. Cadaver manipulation demonstrated reduced intervertebral movement at the operative site in all cases. The articulations of the equine cervical spine can be operatively fused by the Cloward technique, and surgically induced trauma is minimal. This technique can be used for stabilizing subluxations and may be applicable for treating fractures and osteolytic processes that have weakened vert

摘要:
Osteotomy of the greater trochanter with tension band fixation was performed on 14‐, 20‐, and 26‐week‐old Beagle dogs. Physeal growth of the greater trochanter was retarded, as determined by tetracycline labeling. The trochanteric‐condylar distance was reduced and the articulotrochanteric distance was increased. There was no shortening of femoral leg length. There were mild increases in the length of the femora and tibiae of the experimental hindlimbs. The angles of inclination and anteversion of the femoral neck were measured. The experimental operations resulted in insignificant changes in these angles. There was no histologic or clinical evidence of coxarthropathy. All dogs were clinically normal at the termination of the study (38 weeks). It was concluded that osteotomy of the greater trochanter with tension band fixation could be performed on growing Beagle dogs without producing advers

摘要:
We report radiographic changes and clinical results seen in the proximal femur and coxofemoral joint of 7 young dogs following intramedullary pinning. Changes seen radiographically included coxa valga, a small malformed femoral head, a short thin femoral neck, and coxofemoral subluxation. Epiphyseal trauma, ischemia, and mechanical impairment of normal femoral neck growth due to presence of the intramedullary pin are discussed as possible etiologic factors.

摘要:
Delayed reconstructive surgery was performed as a one‐stage procedure on 10 mares with rectovestibular lacerations, using monofilament nonabsorbable suture in a 3‐layer closure, with all internal sutures buried. Primary healing was obtained in 9 cases. One case was complicated by severe postoperative straining, resulting in dehiscence of the rectum, which healed by second intention. A small rectovestibular fistula formed in this case and was later repaired. Recurrence of injury at subsequent foalings appears to be a significant prob
