摘要:
The present basis for determining the protein value in pig feeds is discussed and a proposal for a new protein evaluation system is presented. The system proposed includes (i) a quantification of digestible amino acids according to their ileal digestibility, determined using standardized methods; (ii) a characterization of the protein value according to the contribution of digestible amino acids to ideal protein; (iii) a calculation of surplus amino acid‐N; and (iv) a calculation of the physiologically available energy of surplus amino acids.

The objective of this experiment was to estimate the rate of hydrolysis and fermentation of sugars in the rumen of cows either adapted or unadapted to sugar in the diet. The experimental design was a 3 x 3 Latin square with three rumen‐ and duodenal‐fistulated dairy cows, given a basal diet with addition of zero (0), 0.6 kg sucrose (S) or 0.6 kg lactose (L). The concentration of individual soluble sugars and polyethylene glycol (PEG) in the rumen of cows was measured after introduction of a single dose of the sucrose, lactose or glucose through the rumen cannula. The rate of hydrolysis of sucrose varied from 1200 to 1404% h−1and was not affected by addition of sugars to the basal diet. The rate of hydrolysis of lactose was 248 and 204% h−1for treatment 0 and S, but was considerable higher (540% h−1) when lactose was added to the basal diet. The rate of glucose fermentation after glucose dosing varied from 422 to 738% h−1, and increased with both sucrose and lactose addition to the diet. The rate of fermentation of monosaccharides originating from disaccharide hydrolysis was very high, from approximately 300 to 700% h−1.

The oxidative status of live chickens and of the chicken meat was evaluated for 5 groups of broilers fed a diet optimized with respect to all nutrients and energy content and rich in unsaturated fatty acids from rapeseed and soybean oil. The six diets varied in dietary content of ß‐carotene (5.1 or 10.2 mg kg−1diet), canthaxanthin (2.0 mg kg−1diet) or retinol (8400 or 16800 IU kg−1diet).

Effects of dietary protein levels ranging from 35% to 15% of metabolizable energy (ME) and dietary fat levels ranging in a reciprocal fashion from 47% to 67% of ME, and a constant dietary carbohydrate level of 18% of ME were investigated in male mink kits in the growing‐furring period. Growth performance, mortality rate, hepatic fatty infiltration, weights of body and liver, relative weight of liver, haematocrit values, plasma activities of alanine‐aminotransferase (ALAT), aspartate‐aminotransferase (ASAT) and creatine‐kinase (CK), and plasma concentrations of chemical parameters were studied. A protein supply of 30% of ME supported normal growth performance and ensured a low mortality rate. Plasma ALAT and hepatic fatty infiltration increased with decreasing ME from protein. Alanine‐aminotransferase was found to be a useful tool in estimation of the incidence of hepatic fatty infiltration. The haematocrit values and the plasma values of total protein, urea, creatinine and bile acids were influenced by the dietary protein level.

Records from 570 scanblack mink dams with 786 lactations in the period 1989–94 were used to estimate genetic parameters for body weight and weight changes during the lactation period from parturition to 6 weeks post‐partum. Direct additive effects and effects of permanent environment were estimated using restricted maximum likelihood (REML) in univariate and bivariate models.

摘要:
The aim of the present experiment was to investigate the temporal development of fur damage in mink as well as the significance of social conditions (alone, in pairs or in family groups) on frequency and development of fur damage in mink kits. The adult generation was selected and distributed into two groups, partly on the basis of the frequency and character of the fur damage. The kits examined were offspring from these adult mink plus those from a randomly selected control group.
