摘要:
Psychotherapy integration can refer to a common factors approach to understanding psychotherapy, to assimilative integration (a combination of treatments drawn from different approaches but guided by a unitary theoretical understanding), or to theoretical integration (an attempt to understand the patient by developing a superordinate theoretical framework that draws from a variety of different frameworks). In contrast to eclectic psychotherapy, it Is based on theoretical understanding. It recognlxes the central role of the therapeutic relation‐chip and the value of techniques drawn from disparate approaches. Because It transcends the limits of any single, pure‐form approach to treatment, ft has promise to become the defining process (not school) for future generations of psychotherapi

摘要:
Providing community‐based health programs that are responsive to the perceived health needs of the community is key to providing critically needed health services to those currently untreated or uninsured. An innovative and culturally sensitive community‐partnership program of prenatal care developed for rural Hawaii (Malama) provides a model for effectively integrating the values and expertise of academia and those of the community, as well as of psychology and nursing. Such illustrations are vital for effective healthcare ref

摘要:
Recently there has been considerable research exploring the interpersonal relationships of patients diagnosed with panic disorder with agoraphobia. In general, recent empirical investigations support the notion that agoraphobics' interpersonal relationships are problematic and can decrease treatment efficacy. In addition, it appears that involving the partner of the agoraphobic in treatment may be more effective than treating the client alone. However, these conclusions are limited by several methodological and conceptual shortcomings, including narrow and/or biased sample selection, lack of adequate measures, and insufficient use of suitable control groups.

摘要:
The central thesis of this article Is that several premises and strategies that guide research on psychopathology in children and adolescents greatly limit our understanding of the characteristics, onset, and course of functioning and adaptation. Specifically, the article questions the assumption of single pathways of dysfunction, the focus on main effects and linear relations, the preference for analyzing psychological dimensions rather than categories of individuals, lack of attention to “packages” or clusters of influences and outcomes and to their dynamic relations, and, finally, indifference to the sources of information for assessing major constructs. The strategies that will augment understanding include: more diverse sources of information, aggregation of risk factors, analyses within individuals as well as within groups, models based on changes during development, and, finally, inquiry Into the processes that mediate psychopathol

摘要:
A decade of programmatic studies of resistance during parent training therapy is reviewed, including a brief description of a procedure developed for coding resistant behavior. Analyses of sequential interactions during treatment show that therapists' efforts to intervene produced immediate parental resistance. From baseline to midtreatment phases, there were increases in the therapists' efforts to intervene, which were in turn accompanied by Increases in parental resistance. Contextual variables such as parent pathology also correlated with higher levels of resistance. Decreases in resistance were associated with improvements in parental discipline practices. Parental resistance altered the behavior of the therapists, reducing their effectiveness. A regression analysis shows that improvements in discipline predicted fewer future arrests and out‐of‐home placem

摘要:
The term and concept ofcomorbidltyhas been receiving increasing currency in the psychopathology literature. Nevertheless, most uses of this term in contemporary psychopathology research do not adequately distinguish between the nature of conditions in organic medicine (which typically approximate “diseases”) and those in descriptive psychopathology (which are typically “syndromes” or, more rarely, “disorders”), and blur the distinction between latent constructs and manifest indicators. Specific problems with use of the termcomorbidltyinclude its (a) application to childhood and personality disorders and (b) inconsistent usage. We conclude that, with the possible exception of its use to describe some organic mental disorders, application of the termcomorbidltyto psychopathologlcal syndromes encourages the premature rerHcation of diagnostic entities and arguably has led to more confusion than cl

摘要:
This paper provides a commentary on the review by Lflienfeld, Waldman, and Israel in this issue concerning the use of the term and concept of comorbidtty in the personality disorder literature. We suggest that there are three aspects to their review. One is a presentation of the problem of the fallible relationship between diagnoses and the disorders they purportedly assess. The second is the awareness of this problem within the personality disorder literature. The third is their recommendation for how to address the apparent misuse of the term within the literature. We agree with their discussion regarding the first point, but not with their characterization of the literature nor with their proposal to desist from using the term.

摘要:
Lilienfeld et al's critique of the use of the termcomorbidin psychopathological research is critically examined. They are incorrect in asserting that the original use of the term in medical epidemiology was intended to restrict it todiseaseentities. Furthermore, the ways in which medical comorbidity can be understood apply equally well to understanding the comorbidity of psychiatric or psychological disorders. Just as it has been useful to use the general termpsychiatric disordersto include symptom patterns and syndromes and few If any true diseases, so to it is useful to apply the generic term ofcomorbidityto the joint occurrence of psychiatric disorders. Because methodological factors can sometimes contribute to artifactual comorbidity which is uninformative about the disorders being studied is no reason to abandon the term comorbidity in psycho‐pathological researc

摘要:
A short history of the roots of DSM‐III and the politics of its creation help to explain the extensive occasions it offers for fulfilling criteria for multiple diagnoses. With use of standardized interviews, it becomes possible to discover all the diagnoses a single person can qualify for. This should prompt rethinking how diagnoses are selected and what rules for preemptions accord with the nature of psychopatholog
