摘要:
The sudden change of moisture and/or temperature on a solid can significantly disturb the resulting stresses and strains and cause material damage. This investigation is concerned with the sudden rise (or drop) of temperature over a finite segment of a half-space that is free of tractions. The mutual dependence of moisture and temperature is examined by coupled equations such that the hygrothermal stresses and strains are transient in character. The moisture, temperature, and stress are computed by a time-dependent finite-element method and are found to peak and oscillate as a function of time in the vicinity where the surface temperature is altered. These effects are displayed for the 5208 epoxy resin material commonly used in fiber-reinforced composities.

摘要:
A three-dimensional theoretical treatment for the thermal-stress problems in spherical coordinates is developed. The first part is devoted to the relations of stress components in terms of thermoelastic displacement potential and a harmonic function. Next, a hollow sphere with a rotating heat source is considered as an illustrative example. The numerical calculations are then also carried out and the results shown graphically.

摘要:
The one-dimensional axisymmetric quasi-static coupled thermoelastic problem is investigated. The general solutions of its governing equations are obtained in the transform domain. The solutions in the real domain for the cases of an infinitely long solid cylinder and for an infinite medium with a cylindrical hole are also presented. The solution technique uses Laplace transform, and the inversion to the real domain is obtained by means of Cauchy's theorem of residues and the convolution theorem. Comparison with published results, when similar assumptions are made and the same boundary conditions are imposed, shows complete agreement.

摘要:
A numerical model for calculation of thermal stresses and strains during solidification of steel is presented. Creep deformations are included. Stresses and strains during the early stage of solidification are studied for different steels under different cooling conditions. The results obtained may explain some observed cracking in continuously cast steel.

摘要:
This paper is concerned with the dynamical problems of nonlinear thermoelasticity. Uniqueness and continuous dependence results are established for smooth admissible thermodynamic processes residing in the region of slate space where the internal energy is a convex function and the elastic material behaves as a definite conductor of heat. When the initial-displacement boundary-value problems are considered, the uniqueness and continuous dependence are established again under the weaker assumption that the thermodynamic processes reside in the strong ellipticity region in state space.

摘要:
The propagation of one-dimensional shock and higher order waves in general linear thermoviscoelastic media is analyzed. It is shown that in general two types of waves may exist, and the properties of these waves are examined. The role played by these waves in the solution of initial boundary-value problems is discussed.

摘要:
Thermal shock due to sudden heating of the bounding surface of a viscoelastic half-space is discussed. Coupling of the temperature and strain fields has been taken into account, and the effects of thermal relaxation on the shock propagation have also been considered. The linear standard model has been used to represent the viscoelastic behavior of the solid in shear which is elastic in hulk deformation. The analysis, although valid for small times, shows that the stress and temperature fields have discontinuities at two points at a given instant of lime. It is further noted that attenuation takes place more rapidly than in the corresponding case of an elastic continuum. The stress and temperature fields are the result of superposition of two shock waves: one is mechanical in origin, the other is due to thermal relaxation. An estimate of the finite speed of the heat signal is also obtained for a specific case.

摘要:
The aim of this paper is to provide an analytical determination of temperature and thermal stress in a cylindrical nuclear fuel rod with cladding, including the actual neutron flux distribution in a unit cell, fur a thermal reactor in steady state. The temperature and stresses are evaluated by solving a set of differential and integral equations, derived from the heat conduction and Hooke's law. Some numerical applications are presented (with reference to a common pressurized water reactor) and discussed. The emphasis is placed on the influence of nuclear parameters on the thermal and mechanical behavior of the fuel element.
