摘要:
The effects of functional health status on socio‐psychological aspects of everyday life were analysed with data from 2,255 Japanese persons aged 55 years and over. The sample was randomly selected from the residents' registration (response rate was 75.2%). The socio‐psychological variables were self‐rated health, working status, frequency of going out, leisure activities, social networks, social supports, and subjective well‐being. Health status had significant and positive effects on these variables when the effects of age, gender and educational attainment were controlled. The results seem to confirm the notion that health status is the pivotal condition of quality of life in old age and

摘要:
The ICIDH was developed to assess the consequences of disease and classify them as impairments, disabilities and handicaps. By developing a standard classification system it provides a common conceptual framework and terminology for specialists in diverse health care areas. Disability measures collated nationally across the Australian Government aged care system are plagued by some of the problems that the ICIDH was designed to address. This paper considers the aged care data collections in the context of the ICIDH system and shows that measurement of disability in national aged care data could benefit from such a classification system.

摘要:
Until now, no single recording system for urinary incontinence has found widespread acceptance. The Queen Elizabeth Graphical Assessment for Urinary Incontinence has been developed to display the pattern of voiding on an hourly basis over a four day period. Colour coding of the chart indicates clearly whether the patient is incontinent, continent or able to remain continent with the help of staff or carers. The system can be used in the initial assessment of urinary incontinence and also in monitoring progress in any subsequent treatment interventions. In established urinary incontinence in the nursing home setting, the chart has been used in the documentation for Resident Classification Instrument ratings. The format is simple to use and can be applied to hospital, residential care and home settings.

摘要:
The characteristics and care requirements of 130 clients admitted to a community options project were compared with those of a cohort of 301 nursing home applicants who lived in the same region. The community care clients were all assessed as having care needs which would render them eligible for nursing home care. The community options clients were younger and more likely to be married than the nursing home applicants. Their care needs were significantly less as indicated by a wide range of indicators including the Barthel score, Resident Classification Instrument, and frequency of dementia, disturbed behaviour and incontinence.

摘要:
To explore the interaction between general practitioners (GPs) and Aged Care Assessment Teams (ACATs) from the GP's perspective, structured telephone interviews were held with the GPs of 77 people consecutively admitted to nursing homes in the Hunter region of New South Wales. Overall, GPs expressed satisfaction with the assessment process. However, on 37 (48%) occasions, GPs claimed not to have been asked for information prior to assessment, on 36 (47%) occasions no feedback was received, and on 58 (75%) occasions, GPs claimed they were not informed of their patient's admission to a nursing home. Some solutions to these perceived deficiencies were offered by the GPs interviewed. These indicate practical ways in which cooperation between GPs and ACATs can be enhanced.
