摘要:
A general approach to building an effective justification process around a multi—attribute decision model is suggested which incorporates factory performance measurements to focus on difficult to quantify strategic and tactical benefits from Computer Integrated Manufacturing. This approach differs from previous work in that: attributes are rationally designed performance measures which form the basis for a formal feedback system, and attributes are selected to represent the spectrum of benefits known to be relevant to CIM systems. The paper focuses on selecting an appropriate set of attributes to form the decision model for evaluating the alternatives to be considered in the justification process.

摘要:
Corporate tax reduction is used as a fiscal tool to stimulate investment in depreciable assets. But such a tax cut has several direct and indirect effects on business investment which do not run in the same direction. This paper focuses on a “cash flow effect” which increases the profitability of projects, and a “discount rate effect” which reduces the profitability of capital investments. Ignoring the macroeconomic effects of a corporate tax cut and their feedback effect on business investment, the interaction of these two opposing forces renders the net effect of a corporate tax cut on capital investments theoretically indeterminate. However, a numerical example shows that for reasonable parameters, the net effect on capital investments of a tax cut may be positive.

摘要:
As a garbage truck ages, its maintenance and repair costs increase, and its availability for service decreases. A large city's decision support system tracks this decline pattern for each truck and specifies a replacement age for it. But that system is shown here to be based upon a flawed formula which will, inevitably, keep any poorer than average truck too long and replace any better than average truck too soon. An alternative, economically—sound base is proposed for this and similar systems. Methodology for computing the excess cost caused by using the present system's non—optimal recommendations is developed and illustrated.

摘要:
Many researchers have dealt with and contributed to the literature on bond risk and risk premium. This paper analyzes components of bond risk premium using market valuation theory. We introduce a concept of “yield risk.” The “yield risk” of a bond is shown to be the sum of systematic risk and default risk. We successfully bridge the theoretical gap between what is commonly known (and contained in most investment textbooks) that yield to maturity of a bond may be an upward biased measure of cost of debt, and the theory of valuing risky debt in capital market equilibrium.
