摘要:
A type of electrical artifact seen on EEG records of neonatal patients supported with Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) is described. An analysis of this unusual interference related to roller-pump-driven perfusion systems leads to the suggestion that the piezoelectric properties of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) tubing in conjunction with roller action is the source of this artifact. The phenomenon has previously been documented, but not fully explained. The investigators offer practical solutions for eliminating the effects of this electrical noise in the clinical setting.
