摘要:
The African genusRhampholeonGünther 1874 comprises a small group of basically similar, short-tailed, dwarf chameleons distributed through central and east Africa with the epicentre of speciation in Tanzania. Three species are currently known from Malawi, one of which is endemic. In this paper a further new endemic taxon from southern Malawi is described. Recent literature on the genus is discussed in relation to subgeneric grouping, and an updated key to the genus given.

摘要:
The dietary habits of the giant African clariid catfish,Heterobranchus bidorsalis(Geoffroy St. Hilaire 1809) inhabiting Owena Reservoir (Southwestern Nigeria) were investigated. Stomach content analyses established that it had an euryphagous diet. The diet comprised mainly plankton, insects, fish and detritus although, plant parts, benthic invertebrates and tadpoles were consumed. Detritus was very prominent accounting for between 68.1–74.5% occurrence and 13.9–19.6% volume in all sizes of fish examined, which indicated that it was a benthic feeder.

摘要:
Past studies of yellow-billed oxpeckersBuphagus africanusLinnaeus 1766 have shown that buffaloesSyncerus caffer(Sparrman 1779) are their preferred hosts. Yellow-billed oxpeckers were successfully introduced into the Matobo National Park, Zimbabwe, in 1975. In 1986, all the buffalo were removed from the park. The oxpecker population shifted their host selection onto other ungulates present in the park, and continued to breed successfully.

摘要:
Calobata taeniataMacquart 1843 is redescribed based on specimens of both sexes from the Indian Ocean islands of Réunion and Mauritius. The species is transferred fromTrepidarioidesFrey 1927 toCothornobataCzerny 1932, a genus of Eurybatinae otherwise restricted to the Oriental and Australasian Regions.Cothornobata taeniata(Macquart 1843), n. comb., is the only species of Eurybatinae occurring in the Afrotropical Region. The generic distribution ofCothornobatais discussed and compared to that ofTelostylinusEnderlein 1922 (Neriidae), which is recorded from the Seychelles and the Afrotropical Region for the first time.

The authors report the results of observations and experiments on the site fidelity, home range and homing success in some species of birds captured and banded at the ORSTOM Ornithological Station of Mbour (Senegal) during the non-breeding season (November-December 1988 and 1989).

摘要:
The Cylindromorphini is reduced to tribal status under Agrilinae. The Trachyinae is not considered as a necessary subfamily and thus the six inclusive tribes are considered under Agrilinae and thus equivalent to Cylindromorphini. A key is given to separate the six tribes present in the Afrotropical region. The phylogenetic affinities and possible related lineages of the cylindromorphines are discussed briefly. The generic synonymy for two of four Afrotropical genera is changed:FranchetiaThéry 1947 (=CapeneriaCobos 1953), n. syn. andZitaThéry 1947 (=NeomorphusCobos 1953), n. syn. The four continental African genera are separated in a key and species lists are given for each. Type species are newly designated forParacylindromorphusThéry 1928,ZitaThéry 1947,NeomorphusCobos 1953 andZitellaThéry 1954.

摘要:
The taxonomic position of the monotypic genusLydomorphusFairmaire 1882 is clarified. The examination of the type series of L.cinammomeusFairmaire 1882 indicated that the large genusCylindrothoraxEscherich 1896 is a junior synonym ofLydomorphus(n. syn.); consequently new combinations for 73 species are proposed. The male syntype is designated as lectotype ofL. cinammomeus. The female syntype belongs toL. angusticollis(Haag-Rutenberg 1880), the closest relative ofL. cinammomeus. L. cinammomeusis redescribed and figured, andCylindrothorax csikiiKaszab 1955 is synonymized with it (n. syn.). Two new subgenera,Pardolydus[including onlyL. dusaulti(Dufour 1821)], andSomalolydus(including species of thebifoveicepsgroup) are described.

摘要:
The African representatives of thePardosa nebulosa-group are revised. This group now includes 10 species, five of which are new:P. alticola, P. kavango, P. nostrorum, P. paleataandP. thompsoni. The other five areP. gefsanaRoewer 1959,P. injucunda(O.P.-Cambridge 1876),P. lusinganaRoewer 1959,P. messingerae(Strand 1916),P. naevia(L. Koch 1875).P. lycosinaPurcell 1903, only known from females, is a possible additional species. All the species are described and much attention is paid to intraspecific variability. InP. injucundathe high variability is thought to reflect the existence of different biospecies. An illustrated key to the males is provided. The generic placement of the group and the taxonomic level of the taxa it contains, are discussed.

摘要:
In recent years, imported dung beetles Scarabaeinae have been used to enhance fast manure degradation on the surface of pastures in some regions. In 1972,Digitonthophagus gazella(Fabricius 1787) was first released in Victoria County and Kleber County, Texas, and then in some other regions of the United States. Subsequently the species has extended its distribution area in the U.S.A. and Mexico.
