摘要:
Analyses of stomach contents of (1093)Heterotis niloticus(Cuvier 1829) in the River Ogbese, Owena Reservoir and Mahin Lagoon (southwestern Nigeria) established it as a benthic feeder in the river and a planktonic feeder in the reservoir and lagoon. There was a preponderance of zooplankton, accounting for > 80% occurrence and > 25% of total volume in the stomachs of specimens from all habitats; this suggests a microphagous habit. Digestive enzyme assays in the different gut regions (oesophagus, stomach, pyloric caeca, ileum, rectum) ofH. niloticusrevealed an array of glycosidases (amylase, sucrase, maltase, lactase, cellulase); proteases (pepsin, trypsin, chymotrypsin) and lipases were also detected. The pattern of distribution and relative activity of the enzymes is consistent with its planktophagous diet. Haematocrit values, haemoglobin concentrations, erythrocyte and leucocyte counts, mean cell haemoglobin concentration, plasma protein, glucose and albumin, inorganic ion (sodium, chloride, calcium, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus) concentrations of pond-culturedH. niloticuswere established. Correlations were found between some blood parameters and standard length.

摘要:
Sixty-nine species are reported (two of them determined only at the generic level and one juvenile specimen which probably belongs to a new, unknown genus). Thirty-five species are described as new:Afrobeata magnifican. sp.,Evarcha bihastatan. sp.,E. elegansn. sp.,E. similisn. sp.,Habrocestum tanzanicumn. sp.,Heliophanus pygmaeusn. sp.,Hyllus ramadaniin. sp.,H. rotundithoraxn. sp.,Kima atran. sp.,Langelurillus alboguttatusn. sp.,L. difficilisn. sp.,L. furcatusn. sp.,L. manifestusn. sp.,Langona improceran. sp.,Lilliput minutusn. sp.,L. mkomazienzisn. sp.,L. pusillusn. sp.,Neaetha irrepertan. sp.,Pellenes cingulatusn. sp.,P. modicusn. sp.,Phintella incertan. sp.,Phlegra parvulan. sp.,Ph. simplexn. sp.,Ph. varian. sp.,Pignus lautissimumn. sp.,Pseudicius eximiusn. sp.,Rhene facilisn. sp.,Stenaelurillus cristatusn. sp.,S. darwinin. sp.,S. fuscatusn. sp.,S. mirabilisn. sp.,Tusitala proximan. sp.,T. unican. sp.,Xuriella priman. sp.,Yogetor bellusn. sp. The first description of the females ofFestucula lawrenceiLessert 1933 andPhlegra nudaPróchniewicz & Heciak 1994 is provided.Hyllus cornigerWesolowska & van Harten 1994 is synonymized withH. dotatus(Peckham & Peckham 1903) and placed to the genusEvarchaSimon 1902. Three new genera are established:Lilliputn. gen.,Xuriellan. gen.,Yogetorn. gen. The definition of the genusLangelurillusPróchniewicz 1994 is supplemented. The results are discussed in relation to the diversity of salticids from different regions of the world and within Africa and to the efficiency of different sampling methods for salticidae.

摘要:
Specimens ofCletocamptusSchmankewitsch 1875, collected in a small pond in north-west Namibia, were identified and redescribed asC. confluens(Schmeil 1894). The morphology of both sexes is illustrated in detail and compared to the existing descriptions. The new record expands considerably the known distribution ofC. confluens.A map showing the locations of this widespread species is presented.

摘要:
Three new species belonging to two new genera of Typhlopolycystidinae Evdonin 1977 from the Galapagos are described:Myobulla myobullan. gen. n. sp.,M. dunatan. sp. andSabulirhynchus axin. gen. n. sp. The general anatomy closely resembles that ofLimipolycystisSchilke 1970. However,Myobullais characterised by the presence of a muscular knob with four hard teeth on the bursal stalk, whileSabulirhynchushas a pear-shaped seminal receptacle and lacks an accessory glandular organ. TheMyobullaspecies differ from each other in the shape and dimensions of the stylet;S. axihas a plate-like stylet. An undescribed species ofLimipolycystisis mentioned but is not described because we lack good material. The subfamily Typhlopolycystidinae is briefly discussed; diagnoses for the new taxa and an emended diagnosis for the subfamily are given.Limipolycystis swedmarkiKarling 1978 is transferred to the genusMyobulla:asM. swedmar- ki(Karling 1978) n. comb. The nameLagenopolycystisn. nom. is proposed to replaceLagenorhynchusBrunet 1965, a junior synonym ofLagenorhynchusGray 1846.

摘要:
The oldest species-group name in the chilopod order Scolopendromorpha and family Scolopendridae,Scolopendra giganteaLinnaeus 1758, is stabilized in accordance with the current concept by designating a neotype specimen from northern Venezuela. The species occurs in northern Colombia and Venezuela, and on Trinidad, Isla Margarita, Curaçao, and Aruba; records from the US Virgin islands, Haiti, Mexico, and Honduras are deemed to represent accidental human importations or labeling errors.Scolopendra galapagoensisBollman 1889 occurs in Cocos Island, the Galápagos Islands, and along the Pacific Coast of South America and the western slope of the Andes from Ecuador to southern Peru.Scolopendra gigantea weyrauchiBücherl 1950 is placed in synonymy underS. galapagoensisBollman 1889.

摘要:
Ptychadena wadein. sp. is described from grassland at moderate elevation, south of Lake Tana in Ethiopia. The new taxon is distinguished from all NE African congeners with comparably restricted webbing by its small size, compact body form, the arrangement of skin folds on the back and details of colour pattern, particularly on the hindlimbs. It remains unknown whetherP. wadeiis a montane endemic, with a type locality perhaps near the lower limit of its altitudinal range, or a more widespread savanna form that has succeeded in penetrating the foothills of the Ethiopian plateau. Lake Tana and the surrounding mountains are a part of the country much in need of further herpetological study.
