摘要:
Two new species of Lepismatidae (Insecta Zygentoma) are described from the Sar Uanle dunal system in southern Somalia:Acrotelsella giubanan. sp. andCtenolepisma somaliensisn. sp. and they are compared with the closer known species. A key is given for the females of the AfrotropicalAcrotelsellaand the newCtenolepismainserted previously published keys to the Afrotropical species of this genus. Two species, newly reported for the same area,Acrotelsa collaris(Fabricius 1793) andHeterolepisma bisentosa(Carpenter 1916) are recorded and the last, known previously only from the Seychelles, is redescribed.

摘要:
The lentulid grasshopperMecostibus minimusn. sp. is described from southern Somalia, the most northerly record of this family known and the first record from Somalia. The species appears close on the basis of external characters to M.minor(Bruner 1910) from Kenya and Tanzania but may readily be distinguished from it by the characteristic shape of the aedeagus and epiphallus, which are illustrated for both species. As well as the large coxal lobe on the mid leg,MecostibusKarsch 1896 is characterised by an elongate-conical backwardly-directed dorso-median process on the ectophallic membrane which has not so far been reported in any other genus of Lentulidae.

摘要:
Arvicanthis niloticus(Desmarest 1822) (Mammalia Rodentia) exhibits different karyotypes in different populations throughout its wide distribution area, characterized by diploid numbers ranging from 2n= 62 to 56. A 44 chromosome karyotype is described in oneA. niloticusfrom Somalia. The taxonomic and evolutionary inferences are discussed.

摘要:
Thirty-two species of the families Withiidae and Cheliferidae are recorded from Kenya. One genus and six species of Withiidae and four species of Cheliferidae are described as new, the withiid genusPycnowithiusand the cheliferid genusBeieriusare recorded for the first time from East Africa. The speciesAllowithius crassusBeier 1935 andA. somalicus majorBeier 1935 are considered as junior synonyms ofWithius somalicus(Beier 1932),Beierius walliskewi gracilisBeier 1955 is sunk into synonymy ofB. walliskewi legrandi(Vachon 1938). The status of the withiid generaStenowithius, NannowithiusandXenowithius(which is considered as junior synonym ofWithius) is commented. An artificial identification key is proposed for the Kenyan species of those two families.

摘要:
Coluber florulentusGeoffroy 1827, C.smithi(Boulenger 1895), andC. tayloriParker 1949 (Reptilia Serpentes) are valid species. The widerangingC. florulentusis polytypic, includingC. f. perretin. ssp. from N Cameroon and E Nigeria. In N Kenya,C. smithiis sympatric withC. f. keniensisParker 1932. Because the systematic status of other East African species remains unclear, the phylogenetic relationships ofC. florulentusare not yet fully understood. The distribution of supposedly synapomorphic character states within Palaearctic species groups (s. l.) are discussed.

摘要:
A new genus and species,Scarthyla ostinodactyla, from the upper Amazon Basin in Peru is distinguished from other genera of Hylinae by cranial characters and the possession of ossified intercalary elements between the penultimate and terminal phalanges. The tadpoles develop in ponds but have long, muscular tails and low caudal fins, which are used in the unusual locomotion of propelling themselves at and above the surface of the water. Adults are small and have fully webbed feet by means of which they can leap from the surface of the water.

摘要:
Trapeziid crabs inhabitingAcroporacorals from three major East African collections were examined. Two new species,Tetralia innamorataandTetralia vanniniiare described and three previously recognized species,Tetralia cinctipesPaulson 1875,Tetraloides heterodactyla(Heller 1861) andTetraloides nigrifrons(Dana 1852) are discussed. A key separating these five species is provided.
