摘要:
Hazard communication, learning about and protecting yourself from the hazardous chemicals you work with, is the core of a dependable safety program. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration's hazard communication regulation (OSHA 1910.1220), known as HAZ COM, includes requirements to protect workers who use chemicals at work. The article lists the steps in building a hazard communication program.

摘要:
A problem in many treatment plants is the increasing size of filter media particles in filter beds. If left unchecked, this condition can have potentially serious consequences for drinking water systems. An easy, cost‐effective method to handle this problem is in situ cleaning of filter media. This article outlines the steps to clean your filters in situ.

摘要:
Over time, a calcium‐type buildup, called struvite, formed on the drums of our belt filter presses. Struvite, a bond of calcium, fatty oils, and polymer, plugged drum holes and decreased press dewatering capability. We tried many methods to remove the struvite buildup from our three belt filter presses. To solve this problem, we developed an easy procedure to clean the drums. We simply place a small amount of 1‐in. river rock inside the drum. As the rocks rotate in the drum, the drum is cleaned of excess struvite buildup.

摘要:
The corrosion inhibitor used at our water treatment plant is stored in 55‐gallon barrels, weighing 600 lb each. It is, unfortunately, necessary to move these heavy plastic barrels from our loading dock to the plant's basement. After investigating many products, we constructed our own barrel lifter. Materials and construction information are included.

摘要:
The question, “What is CT?” has been asked since the promulgation of the Surface Water Treatment Rule (SWTR) in 1989. Simply, CT is disinfectant contact time, which is the product of C multiplied by T. This article answers the following questions: What factors affect CT? How do I calculate CT? and What are your options?
