摘要:
The BBC has embarked on a new design for a digital sound coding system. It uses a gate array and standard v.l.s.i. components to achieve a reduction in size and power consumption when compared to a previous design which was based on ‘conventional’ logic components.

摘要:
This paper examines the changes in working practices resulting from the introduction of an information technology (IT) project. The data are drawn from the experience gained through operating the EPIC (Electronic Parts Information Centre) system at RSRE on behalf of the MOD, Directorate of Components Values and Devices. Details of this system were described in a previous paper in this Journal.1The conclusions drawn at the end of that paper are examined and judged.

摘要:
Two complementary programs are described, dealing with the prediction of coupling between wires. The first (CABCIP) is intended for the design of the entire wiring of large systems. The program produces recommendations on the type of wire to use (single, twisted-pair, shielded, etc); on the harness to which the wire should belong and the separation between harnesses. The program is iterative, advancing in three stages as available data increases. Realistic worst-case default values are used for parameters that are not known in the early stages of a design. The other program (IPFCBW) is a simplified version of CABCIP, intended for rapid interactive use.

摘要:
The paper describes a differential output magnetic field sensor based on a current-splitting m.o.s.f.e.t. structure with two drain contacts. The sensor is integrated onto silicon with two n.m.o.s. voltage controlled oscillators and a temperature sensor, using the standard Southampton n.m.o.s. process. An input to the chip provides for offset compensation. The oscillators are driven by the sensor outputs, so that it is the difference in frequency which is proportional to magnetic field. Pulses from the oscillators may be counted directly into a register by a microcomputer providing a simple form of A to D conversion suitable for most applications. The microcomputer may also linearize the sensor output and provide temperature compensation using a separate input from the temperature sensor. In its simplest form the complete transducer may consist of two chips, the sensor and a single chip microcomputer, providing a serial digital output and mounted in a compact form on a thick film hybrid circuit.

摘要:
Spectral and performance advantages of previously reported Intersymbol-Interference (ISI) and Jitter Free (IJF) pulse shapes used in linearly and non-linearly amplified modulation schemes, encouraged a search for more power and bandwidth efficient IJF signals.In this paper two general classes of IJF signals which have fast spectral roll-off and low out-of-band energy emission are presented. Spectral properties and error probability Peperformance of these signals in an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) environment are analytically investigated. Linear transversal, non-linear decision-feedback and raised-cosine type receivers are considered. Experiments have been performed to verify the analytical results. It is shown that a good performance can be attained with five-tap transversal filters and decision-feedback equalizers provide a performance improvement relative to transversal equalizers.
