摘要:
AbstractReaction accompanied mass transfer from fluid and solid spheres has been studied for creeping flow and a first order reaction. The results are presented graphically as Sherwood number plotted against Peclet number, with a dimensionless reaction rate factor as a parameter. At high values of the Peclet number the results approach the curves for physical mass transfer, while at low Peclet numbers the results may be predicted by the equations for reaction accompanied diffusions. The results were obtained by Yuge's method and by finite‐difference numerical methods. The latter methods had limited ranges of applicabilit

摘要:
AbstractThe steady state of a reactor consisting of a tubular reactor followed by a stirred tank with material and thermal feedback is invesigated here. It is found that the overall heat generation curve can be considerably more complex than that of a single stirred tank on account of the backmixing and feedback. The influence of these effects on the stability of the reactor is discussed.

摘要:
AbstractThe adsorption of calcium ions from aqueous solutions on − 65 + 200 mesh quartz has been measured using Ca45as a tracer. Results are given for initial Ca++ion concentrations of (4.2 to 11.5) × 10−4gm. ions/liter over the pH range 4 to 12. Changes in pH occurring during the adsorption have also been determined. The mechanisms of cationic adsorption on quartz in aqueous media, and the activation of quartz surfaces for flotation with anionic collectors are critically discu

摘要:
AbstractThe adsorption of laurate and myristate ions on quartz from solutions containing (1 to 25) × 10−5gm. ions/liter of adsorbate at different pH values, both in the absence and in the presence of Ca++ions, has been measured using C14‐labelled compounds as tracers. The results have been correlated with the flotation behavior of quartz as determined by Hallimond tube and bubble pick up techni

摘要:
AbstractThe combustion of a fuel droplet can be described by a quasi‐steady theory at pressures up to about 1/10 of the critical pressure of the fuel. Finite rates of chemical reaction and evaporation impose lower bounds on the product of pressure and droplet size for which the theory is valid. An unsteady droplet theory becomes necessary for pressures between the highest pressure for a quasi‐steady theory and the critical pressure.Unsteady heat transfer and diffusion of dense gas are the significant processes in the combustion of a liquid fuel above its critical pressure. The burning rates above the critical pressure are likely of the same order as at lower pressu

摘要:
AbstractThe general case of cascade operation is treated without any restriction on the value of the separation factor. Equilibrium curves are briefly discussed. These are generally a function of the cut.The equations of operating lines for both of enriching and stripping sections are derived for the general case by appropriate material balances. Also, three specific applications are presented in detail, by showing graphical constructions and discussing characteristic features for each case.

摘要:
AbstractEquations are derived to predict the effect of trace surface‐active impurities on mass transfer across a spherical interface.Transfer in the bulk phase surrounding spheres with both rapid and slow internal circulation, and moving in creeping flow, is shown to decrease on increasing the surfactant concentration.Drag and transfer equations for contaminated rapidly‐circulating spheres moving at high Reynolds numbers are in semi‐quantitative agreement with published data. The influence of surface‐active contaminants on drag and transfer decreases as the viscosity of the bulk phase is in

摘要:
AbstractThe problem of a steady state plug flow transport or moving bed reactor has been solved by computer techniques for the case where the solid phase acts as a heat carrier and chemical reaction occurs only in the gas phase. The mathematical model reduces to a set of simultaneous ordinary first order differential equations, which are solved by both the Runge‐Kutta‐Gill method on a digital computer and by simulation on an analog compu
