摘要:
The climatic characteristics of the Isles of Scilly are briefly described and general consideration given to the possible modes of origin of their marine fauna. The range of ecological conditions on the shores is indicated by description of different levels of exposure from extreme shelter, with deposition of huge areas of relatively stable sand, to bare rock headlands facing the full rigour of the Atlantic weather. A brief note is added of underwater conditions in a few localities off St. Mary's surveyed by divers of the University of London Sub-Aqua Club.

摘要:
The occurrence of a commensalic hydroid of the genusEugymnantheahas been noted in the wood-boring molluscs such asNausitora hedleyi, Teredo furciferaandMartesia striata. Both the polyp and the young medusa are described. The mode of formation of the colony, movements of the hydroid and preliminary observations on the general ecology are noted and the nature of the relationship indicated.

摘要:
A new Egyptian species of the pareudriline genusChuniodrilusis described and the generic definition emended to include it. A key to the six species of the genus diagnoses the new species. Evidence is presented which indicates that evolution of the female genital system for internal fertilization has closely paralleled that in the genusStuhlmannia, including encapsulation of the ovaries in the oviducal system, provision for sperm storage within this system, union of the systems of the two sides, and reduction of the ovisac of one side (the right inChuniodrilus, the left inStuhlmannia). The ultimate condition, loss of the right oviduct, is seen inScolecillus tantilluswhich is probably congeneric withChuniodrilus, and corresponds with the condition inStuhlmannia asymmetricain which the left oviducal system has been eliminated.

摘要:
The variability of four characters commonly used in the separation of species ofLimnodrilushas been described, and their relative values assessed. The number of setae per bundle is useless as a specific character; the shape of the setae can serve to distinguish only a single species and the length: breadth ratio of the penial sheath is more useful as an additional or confirmatory character. The shape of the penial sheath proved to be the most important character, but even this was not completely reliable, and it is concluded that several characters must be used in the identification of species ofLimnodrilus. It is suggested that structures other than the cuticular derivatives should be examined and that a similar study be carried out on North American species.

摘要:
Records of ten species ofSosyluscollected in Nigeria are given, with details of distribution, host trees and platypodid associates. TheSosylusfauna of Nigeria appears to lie between that of Ghana and the Congo in species composition. Comment is made on the close association that someSosylusspecies have with their platypodid hosts.
