摘要:
The wide spread genusPsalidothripsPriesner (=CallothripsAnanthakrishnan; syn. n.) is redefined and its relationships discussed. Five new species are added to the genus:armatussp. n.,longicepssp. n.,longistylussp. n.,pitkinisp. n. andseticornissp. n.P. ascitus(Ananthakrishnan) comb. n. is transferred from the synonymous genusCallithrips. The male ofP. simplusHaga is recorded and described for the first time. A key is provided to the seventeen species now included in the genus.

摘要:
Charybdis truncatareared in the laboratory passed through 6 zoeal stages in 20 days (at 26°C and in water of 35‰. salinity) before metamorphosis to the megalopa. Kurata (1975) gave brief descriptions of the first three zoeae of this species, these are supplemented here with details of appendage structure and setation, and the remaining zoeae and megalopa are described. Comparison is made with other species by means of a key to the first zoeae of 10Charybdissp. Those features which allow differentiation of the megalopae of the threeCharybdissp. from Australia whose complete larval development is known, are discussed.C. truncatalarval stages are closely similar to those ofC. callianassa.

摘要:
The position of the family Plataspidae within Pentatomoidea is discussed. Eight genera includingLibyaspisKirkaldy are described or redescribed and are recognized as comprising a natural group. Keys for their separation are presented. The ten species of the genusCantharodesWestwood are described or redescribed and keyed. Two new genera are founded:ArefbeaforCeratocoris damaBergroth (type-species) andCeratocoris capreolusHeinze, andEmparkaforCanthurodes mayumbensisSchouteden (type-species) andIsoplatys politaVilliers. Two new species,Cantharodes schmitziandCantharodes schoutedeniare described from Zaïre. The synonymiesIsoplatysMontandon (=GelastaspisKirkaldy; =DokadaSchouteden; =MaesiaSchouteden),Cantharodes maculatusMontandon (=Apotomogonius vicinusMiller),Cantharodes jaspideusFairmaire (=Cantharodes lujaiSchouteden) andCantharodes bouvieriMontandon (=Cantharodes congolensisSchouteden) are established.Cantharodes nubilosusMontandon is raised from synonymy withCantharodes rutherfordiDistant. Lectotypes are designated forPlataspis caenosaWestwood,Cantharodes congolensisSchouteden andCantharodes bouvieriMontandon.

摘要:
Larvae ofClimaciella brunnea(Say) develop within the egg sacs of spiders. In contrast to other species of mantispids whose larvae actively search for spiders or egg sacs,C. brunnealarvae adopt a phoretic posture and wait for spiders to come to them. Larvae are totally unable to directly penetrate egg sacs; they must board a female spider and reach the eggs before they have been enclosed with silk.

摘要:
A new species of onuphid polychaete,Hyalinoecia araucanasp. nov., has been collected from the Southeastern Pacific Ocean continental slope off Central Chile (37°37′5 S: 73°55′6 W), at a depth of nearly 600 metres. Some adults carried larvae in their tubes. Approximately 53 larvae were carried per worm. Development is direct, with these larvae, ranging from the early 3-setiger stage to more advanced 13-setiger forms. The larvae exhibit distinct differences in setal and maxillary structure from that found in adults. Description of adults and larvae are presented along with comments on related forms.

摘要:
Observations on the vertical distribution of earthworms in pasture confirm thatAllolobophora longa, A. roseaandLumbricus terrestrisare relatively deep burrowers, and that the adults of these species burrow deeper than juveniles. Deep burrowing species have more elongated bodies than surface dwellers such asDendrobaena mammalisandL. castaneus, and adults have more elongated bodies than juveniles. Long-bodied species tend to have more segments than short-bodied ones. On the limited evidence available, increase in relative thinness with age is not, apparently, associated with increased number of segments inA. roseaorL. terrestrisbut is inA. caliginosaandA. longa, and to a lesser extent inA. chlorotica. In adults and juveniles the diameter of the anterior region is greater than that of the posterior region of the body, and the latter is more strongly flattened dorsoventrally than the former. Such morphological differentiation is consistent with the differences in function of the anterior and posterior regions indicated by a simple model of earthworm locomotion. From the model it can be concluded that short-bodied earthworms will take relatively longer ‘steps’ when moving on the surface than will long-bodied ones, and that earthworms with relatively large anterior segments will take longer ‘steps’ than those with relatively small ones. This is in line with the results of observations on living earthworms. The mechanism of locomotion is just one of many factors influencing earthworm size and form. Others include feeding mechanics, vulnerability to predation and desiccation, and exposure to anaerobic conditions.
