摘要:
&NA;With advances in earlier diagnosis and a deepening commitment to understanding the subjective experience of Alzheimer's, a growing body of literature is giving voice to the direct feelings and experiences of persons with the disease. Dialogue in individual and group sessions, video recordings, and personal narratives written by diagnosed individuals reveal common themes. They include: receiving and disclosing the diagnosis; anticipating the future; experiencing symptoms; changes in self concept; family and social relationships; meaningful activity; and the value of humor and hope. These themes provide avenues for exploring enhanced communication between persons with Alzheimer's and those entrusted to their care.
