Macroscopic and microscopic hematuria consequent on varicosity of the venous periureteral plexus is rarely encountered. Eleven cases have so far been described in the literature some of which – showing massive hematuria – underwent urgent nephrectomy. As in the case mentioned above, diagnosis is based mainly on urographic signs since the clinic symptomatology is not clearly defined. Such signs consist of impressions on the nephric duct and pelvis, with special features. Differential diagnosis should be related to those affections that may lead to a similar radiological pattern (such as vesicular pyelo-ureteritis or impressions due to pathological lymphatic glands).
