AbstractThe structure of some of the compounds mentioned in our investigation of metanethole was still under discussion.It has been found that metanethole has the structure V. When 1‐p‐methoxyphenyl‐2‐methyl‐3‐ethyl‐6‐methoxyindene‐1, formula I, is brominated2), the product IV is obtained. To the metanethole oxidation product, m.p. 115‐116°3), formula X4)5) applies. With hydrazine hydrate it gives XI. Afterwards we also found this substance mentioned in work byA.
