AbstractThe current research investigated the incidence and severity of bulimiclike behaviors over time in 159 women who were college freshmen in 1965. The results indicate that significantly more women are engaging in bulimic‐like behaviors today than they did in their high school and college years, and that the frequency with which they engage in disordered eating and extreme weight control practices is increasing. Our sample, whether or not they engaged in disordered eating or extreme weight control practices, perceived themselves to be heavier than they actually were.
