With the incidence of diabetes increasing at an alarming rate and at a younger age, the medical and nutritional management regimens to control plasma glucose are not enough. Currently, the challenge is to identify dietary and medical treatment to forestall or prevent the progression of metabolic complications which account for increased mortality and morbidity.
