AbstractPROTOTYPES, a women's treatment program located in Los Angeles, is described in terms of its services for pregnant and parenting women with coexisting substance abuse and mental health disorders. The philosophy of treatment, goals and objectives, treatment planning process, and treatment content are discussed. Management of the milieu, relational model considerations and staff self-care issues are presented in addition to future directions in treatment and research on women with coexisting disorders.
