A transient test method has been developed to determine the thermal performance parameters of solar collectors whose fluid heat capacities are very large. The experimental test procedure used is simple and the tests can be performed under a variety of environmental conditions ranging from highly variable to almost steady. Two solar collectors were tested using the method under varying environmental conditions, and satisfactory results were achieved. This is in fact the only test method available for such collectors.
