In the literature there are no references to the question whether the unique recent primate with gnawing-teeth, Daubentonia madagascariensis, has facial muscles which can cause lip movements analogous to those of the rodents. This is the reason why the facial muscles are examined again and compared with new results on other lemuriform primates (Lemur fulvus and Lepilemur ruficaudatus). Moreover, the facial muscles of the orbital and the auricular area are regarded, too, and their functions are discussed.
