The Royal Society of Chemistry Perkin Division and Bioorganic Group International interdisciplinary Conference Polyketides I1 Chemistry Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics RRIS'WL 1998 University of Bristol 8-10 July 1998 The Royal Society of Chemistry's Perkin Division and Bioorganic Group are pleased to extend an invitation to all interested parties to attend the second cross-disciplinary International Conference on Polyketides- Chemistry Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics. This meeting follows the highly successful conference which was held in Bristol in April 1996. The following persons have agreed to give keynote or invited lectures at the conference John Cronan Universityof Illinois USA Eric Cundliffe Universityof Leicester UK Hans von Dohren Technical University of Berlin Germany Heinz Floss Universityof Washington,USA Melvyn Gill Universityof Melbourne Australia David Hopwood John lnnes Centre UK J un'ichi Kobayashi Hokkaido University Japan Richard Hutchinson Universityof Wisconsin USA Peter Leadlay Universityof Cambridge UK Leonard Katz AbbotfLaboratories USA Haideh Motamedi Merck Research Laboratories USA Michio Murata Universityof Tokyo Japan Jurgen Rohr University of South Carolina USA Elisabeth Schneider-Scherzer Biochemie GmbH Austria Joe Schroder University of Freiburg Germany Michael Schweizer Institute of Food Research UK Tom Simpson Universityof Bristol UK Stuart Smith Oakland Research Institute USA Jim Staunton University of Cambridge UK Bill Strohl Merck Research Laboratories USA Craig Townsend John Uopkins University USA Sali h Wakil Baylor College of Medicine USA Chris Walsh Harvard University USA Paul Williams Universityof Nottingham UK Polyketides comprise a major group of natural products which display a wealth of structural variety and a diverse range of important biological activities.Major advances have been stimulated by work in several areas including chemical synthesis structure elucidation biosynthesis and molecular genetics. The aim of this conference is to bring together leading experts from different disciplines to provide a comprehensive update of recent progress and to discuss future developments and priorities in polyketides research and closely related areas of fatty acid metabolism. In addition downstream tailoring of polyketides e.g.glycosylation and biosynthesis of deoxysugars structure and biosynthesis of marine toxins and relationships with non-ribosomal peptide syntheses will be featured. The programme will consist of keynote and other invited lectures a limited number of offered oral contributions and a poster session with the posters forming an integral part of the meeting. Persons wishing to offer an oral or a poster contribution should contact Dr Gerry Montgomery at the address given below. The closing date for the submission of all abstracts is Monday 19 January 1998 Further Information from Dr Gerry Montgomery Polyketides II,The Royal Society of Chemistry Burlington House Piccadilly London W1V OBN UK Fax t44(0)171 734 1227 Email montgomeryg @rsc.org (using the subject header 98PW1CC) Web http://chemistry.rsc.org/rsc/confs.htm Organic Process Research & DeveIopment KEY FEATURES 0Substantive articles and reports from leading researchers 0Reports on original work in process chemistry 0Reports on scale up of processes to pilot plant with discussions of safety and environmental issues 0 Special focus on the design of chemical processes and their development and scale up from laboratory to manufacture 0 Current R&D in the fine organic and speciality chemical industries 1998 PricinE ~ 6 issues a year ISSN 1083-6160 UK & Europe f289.00 Customers outside of Europe should obtain dollar prices and order from the ACS ’ “At last a journal covering an area which we*in industrial Process R&Dare very much involved in ...~-the issues presented so far have met all my expecta- tions with regard to topics quality of papers and size. The editors are to be congratulated for suc- ceeding in such a formidable way by simply saying what a wonderful start!” H-J Federne4 Associate Professor Senior Manager Process Chemisfry Development Asfra froduction Chemicals Sweden. “OPR&D is the long missing platform for industrial and academic chemists to exchange specific results in the field ... Iwould like to wish the editors and the journal further success and an ever growing com-munity of readers.” Professor B Kutscher Director Chemical Research ASTA Medica Germany ”A dedicated high quality journal covering all aspects of the discipline.Congratulations to the whole team at the first anniversary of OPR&D. Industry has subscribed massively but also universi-ties and schools should not miss this opportunity. OPR&D is valuable and real life feedback from industry and can help bridge the gap. I wish you lots of success for many years to come.” F De Knaep Director Process Research Janssen Pha rmaceutica Belgium To order please contact *&UK & Europe USA & Rest of World For further information on this or The Royal Society of Chemistry The American Chemical Society any other RSC product or z; Turpin Distribution Services Ltd Customer Service and Sales service, visit our website on 6 CHEMISTRY d Blackhorse Rd Letchworth 1155 Sixteenth Street NW http://chemistry.rsc.org/rsc/ Y Herts SG8 1HN Wahington DC 20036 USA e-mail sak@rsc.org c: 9 Tel+44 (0)1462 672555 Tel +1 202-776-8100 5 Fax +44 (0)1462 480947 Fax +1 202-872-6067 7 k! 4 Information 8 Services N RSC & ACS Members are entitled to a discount.
